OKW Pool renovation

We read in the "Vacation Magic" that they will be installing a water slide a the main pool to be completed by the end of the year.

Does anyone have anymore info. on this??

The only reason my dear kids 13,11,8 wanted to go to Disney this August was because of the main pool - we just wanted a relaxing resort type of trip -

If this pool will be closed, I may need to rethink this!!!

No firm dates have been released. I've read everything from "spring" to "after the summer season" as speculation for when they would break ground.

All of the quiet pools should remain open during the rehab to the main pool. But unless concrete information is made available shortly, you may have reason to re-think your destination.

Verbally, most people are being told September for completion by late December/early January. You could try sending an e-mail to DVC and see what type of response you get. When the pool is closed, they are also going to provide boat transportation to SSR to use the pool at that resort in addition to the 3 open pools at OKW.

if it is closed just go to the Turtle pond - it is a little smaller and the snack bar does not even close to the selection of the Good to go - but it is an good replacement without having to go to an outside resort (pool-hopping).....

If I were going pool-hopping I would pick the Polyn or the GF over the new SSR - at least I think I would!

I don't know. Someone reported a CM saying that they felt SSR would be right up there with SAB. (Hard to imagine it will be that great but it sounds like it'll be special.)

I think SSR will be at least comparable to the OKW pool, which is the one the OP mentioned her kids were looking forward to. It sounds like the boat being provided should be a nice way to pool hop without a lot of fuss.

But the best is do follow Pam's advice and e-mail DVC.

We will be there in August and requested near HH. No need to be near HH if the main pool will be closed. I do hope they start construction in September.

During the member update 2 weeks ago they said that the pool renovation is scheduled to begin this fall and be finished by January. No specific dates were given. As for the boat to SSR, OKW is due to get the new larger boat in April (before SSR opens). It will make regular stops at SSR and OKW. (I hope that they keep the name Tumbo Ferry.)
Pool hopping to SSR will be allowed for DVC members regardless of the status of the OKW pool.

Nancy, did they say that the pool hopping would be allowed? That's been a question many people have been asking on these boards. Some are predicting the end of pool hopping. It would be good to hear that it's not a problem.

In the member letter there is no pool hopping for stormalong bay and the pool at AKL. There are block out dates that were mention in there as well. My stuuf is at home and I am not. So look into your member magic!!

It was just posted on another thread that the slide construction will begin in September & that guests are welcome to use the other 3 pools at OKW.

BTW - Turtle Pond is a very nice pool w/ a small snack bar.
