Hello,
I'm debating between OKW and SSR for 2 weeks with 2 kids. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I have been to both and before i went there i would have bet anything that i would have liked SSR better....nope sorry both are great but i loved OKW....

OKW, larger rooms, feels more like "home", and LOVE the theme

Prior to staying at SSR I would have voted OKW for sure. The rooms are much more spacious and private feeling. However, I felt like it was easier to walk to the themed pool and the activities as SSR. Also, you feel more at Disney IMHP at SSR.

Both are great!...OKW bigger...SSR close to Downtown Disney and newer rooms. I rented a car staying at SSR which was really nice.

To fairly answer this question.......

How old are your kids?
What type of accomodation are you planning on staying in?

I like the rooms at OKW because they are bigger (this is mostly true for a 1 bedroom and up). I do like the pools at SSR better for kids, esp. the Grandstand Pool/Water area and the Springs Pool area. I like the laid-back feel to OKW, but I also like the fancier feel to SSR. I probably didn't help you at all! When we are decided between these two resorts, I always have trouble deciding too.

I have not stayed at OKW but have stayed at SSR. If you are wanting a nice view...the views from the OKW rooms look awesome! I sat on my balcony at SSR and looked at the parking lot. It felt like an apartment complex to me. I am not bashing it at all because there were very nice things about the resort...it just did not give me the Disney feel or the feel that I was on vacation! Good luck making your decision!:)

I personally prefer OKW to SSR, for the larger rooms and the lusher landscaping.

Will you have a rental car?

OKW has great rooms & is very pretty but is also very spread out and unless you have a vehicle, you're going to want to be near the main building & themed pool. You can make requests of course, but they won't guarantee anything.

I stayed in OKW with no car a few years back, and all the bus riding to/from the parks / all around OKW before we got to our drop off and riding in wet bathing suits was no fun. Since I do not plan on driving for any of my upcoming vacations (I commute enough!) I will not be staying there again unless I have no other choice. SSR would be the better choice for me & my 2 kids.

Another minus for OKW - no elevators. If they assign you to the second floor and you have a heavy child to carry at the end of the day, or even a load of groceries, it can zap the magic from the moment in a heartbeat.

With 2 weeks I'd just split the stay. I hate split stays when we are only there for a week, but I don't think I'd mind if I had one week at one, and one week at the other!

You don't say what size villa or the ages of your kids. If you are planning on a studio, I'd definitely stay at OKW for the extra real bed. If you are staying in a 2 bedroom, the resort wont matter so much. Both have very good bus transportation, and nice pools. OKW is my favorite because of the room size and the "vacation home" feel of the place over a hotel feel. The lush landscaping makes such a difference! Both are about the same "time" from DTD, but SSR seems closer because it is just across the water.

I like OKW for all the reasons the above poster gave. I also like the fact that after all the chaos of the parks I can go back to such a relaxing atmosphere. You are so close yet you would never know it. Also we live is southern NH. SSR just doesn't feel like FL to me. To much like home I guess. I like feeling like I am on vacation after a winter of snow, snow and more snow.
