OKW or BLT?

DH and I are planning a stay after our cruise for one night at WDW. Right now we have a studio at BLT booked. We’re planning on going to Typhoon Lagoon and Epcot for the day, and possibly DTD at night. We were thinking of switching to a studio near the hospitality house at OKW. Ideally we would have liked to have stayed at the BWV or BCV but there isn’t any availability left.

Anyone who has stayed at OKW- how is the bus transportation to Epcot and Typhoon Lagoon? Should I switch to OKW or stay at BLT? It seems like OKW will put us closer to our destinations but we’re not sure how the transportation is there.

Thanks!

during certain times of the year - OKW transportation is great - this definitely includes the food/wine festavial.

other times it just depends upon your luck - some people seem to get there when the bus comes up - others of us generally end up waiting. the wait should never be more than 20 minutes.

now for DD if you take the boat it can be more fun at OKW. however I really like the trail to DD in the back part of OKW - but at night since it is not lighted this can be a problem.

getting near the HH is not something I would want - it is building 11-14 and 23-26

I dont mean to be a downer, but this sounds like an awful lot to accomplish in one day!!! Have you been to both TL and EPCOT in the past and plan to return to them to pick off your top favorites? I personally can't imagine doing TL, EPCOT and DTD all in one day. Just sayin.

How fun to tack on a day after your cruise! Yea!:woohoo:

Thanks! We've been to Disney more times than you can count lol, so we just planned on hitting up some of our faves. Relax at typhoon lagoon, dinner at epcot, and then maybe DTD for some drinks and shopping!

Thanks for the advice and map! Just curious about why we wouldn't want a room near HH? Is it because its in a busy area? Any recommendations on which building are good? Thanks again!

Sounds great!! I read your message from my iphone and didn't happen to see your signature line showing that you've been to DW many times. Your day sounds wonderful.:thumbsup2 Some of our very best days at DW have been at BB and TL -- I have such fond memories of the times we have spent there.

Have fun!

I would stay at SSR. Walking distance to DTD, close to Typhoon Lagoon and a easy ride to Epcot.

I would also chose Typhoon Lagoon or Epcot but not both. You will be tired after your cruise and it doesn't make sense to have to take another vacation when you get home because you are tired from your vacation. :goodvibes

dvc has gotten better - both places buildings 23-26 and 11-14 now have a crosswalk.

before buildings 11-14 did not. crossing that road would not be something would want to do with kids.

these roads did stay busy - okay nothing at OKW is busy compared to other resorts.

since I am very lazy prefer to be closer to the swimming pool/bus stop.

building 23-26 does have it own bus stop you need to walk to the main pool for swimming.

building 11-14 are across from the main pool and bus stop. here you need to watch for traffic as you cross the street unless you go to the stop sign where the crosswalk is - more walking.

so you need to be very carefully at building 11-14 - lots of even young adults are not seeing other guests crossing this road - guess they are so excited about being there.

Thanks so much for all of the info!! :yay:

Stayed at OKW a month ago with my son for a golf trip. Buses to Epcot were not a problem. Took the boat to DTD which is a nice option. Keep in mind that BLT feels more like a studio. (Queen size bed and full pull out couch.) Studios at OKW have two Queen size beds and no couch which worked better for he and I.

Have a great time. My wife and I are in a studio at BLT in 10 days. She can't wait to be at her second home.

We stayed at OKW and BLT both in studios during our last trip in October 2011. DH and I both still prefer BLT over OKW for multiple reasons, one is that we like having a couch versus a second bed. And we like the kitchenette at BLT better than at OKW. I got very tired of the stairs at OKW and wet stairs were dangerously slippery at times. I think what disappointed us the most was that we didn't have any view because of all the trees and shrubs. I understand it's pretty common at OKW that many of the studios have blocked views. Although there are always exceptions.

However despite my preferring BLT over OKW, I don't see any advantage for you to stay at BLT for your plans. SSR or OKW would make more sense.
