If you don't own at OKW, is it hard to get a studio in the "near hospitality house" category booking at 7 months out for October and/or Spring Break? I f so, what about other, slower, times of year?

Its possible. Spring break has a better chance than october. Highest point usage for dvc is sept thru december. Okw also has the most available rooms along with ssr and akl

The Near HH booking category at OKW is a relatively small subset of the total rooms available there. So while getting a room at 7 months at OKW is easier than some other resorts, getting one within the Near HH category is a lot harder.

This year we stayed in a studio at OKW HH area June 22-28. We had a non-HH studio booked, but switched to the HH area at the end of April when I noticed one become available. It was available 4 months out, but I didn't book it because we weren't sure we were going and needed to purchase a few one time points for the last night. When we knew we were going (about 3 months out) they were gone. I did notice a lot of fluctuation in availability through the entire resort. I imagine people switched to other resorts as waitlists were filled.

I agree. As long time OKW owners we book there at 11 months and then decide if we want to try to switch to another resort at 7 months, at least for part of the stay.

Near Hospitality House is only buildings 11, 12, 13, 14, 23, 24, 25 and 26. For some reason people want to book those buildings. 23-26 wouldn't be too bad, but 11-14 would be terrible to me. All the noise from the buses, parking issues with guests parking at those buildings when the places run out at the HH, lack of a view.

Frankly, I can't figure out why people want HH category. It is our least favorite area at OKW. That's especially true if you get buildings 11-14. Just not a fan. I much prefer 45 and 46 or 15-21.

We agree that its our least favorite area for our family of 4! We prefer 55/56....that being said, we usually have a car - I think HH might be more important if we did NOT have a car...

I agree the parking issues at 11 to 14 are bad. But if you fly in and use magical express, parking would not be an issue. Still not my favorite area of the resort, but if you don't have a car, near HH is really convenient.

Just out of curiousity, what is HH? Not ever being there, I was wondering what the pros/cons would be of picking that category of rooms.

Hospitality House. That is where the store is located, where Olivia's is located, where the checkin desk is located, where you catch the boat to DTD and where the themed pool with the slide is located.

This is one of the best threads I've seen on the benefits/downsides of reserving near HH. Very helpful!

We have booked HH if available and request buildings 23-26. So far we are 2 for 2 with this request. I think it helps that we usually check in well before 4:00, and we are happy to take a 2nd or 3rd floor villa. For our other OKW stay, I switched our reservation from a 1BR to a 2BR and HH was no longer available. We got lucky and were assigned building 46. I always debate booking HH. Buildings 11-14 don't appeal to me, but there are some non-HH villas that I also don't think I would care for.

Thanks, I kind of thought that was what HH was.

We were in 13 top floor, loved how close it was and we don't have a car so that's never a issue, the girls loved going to HH to get their morning coffee. We are in a GV HH this June for 9 nights. That will be in 23-26 as there are no GV in 11-14.

Not a studio, but we were able to get a 1 BR near HH for Columbus Day week. I booked at 7 mos. and had to WL but it came through within a month or so. We were in building 14, top floor, but away from the road so we really didn't hear the buses. We only had a car for the first day to go buy our groceries so parking wasn't an issue. We discovered, for us, a big negative of being near HH - no BBQ. We would've had to take the bus to another area. Instead we cooked our hamburgers and steak on the stove top. Other than that, we really enjoyed our location which was overlooking one of the tees of the golf course.

DW and I stayed in 45 earlier this year and even though we were hoofing it, the walk to HH was not too bad and it was close to South Point bus stop.
DD's stayed at 12 a few months later and loved it as they were so close to everything with quick access to the pool, busses and check in. In fact, my "Disney nut" DD went so far as to rate OKW - HH her favorite DVC resort whcih was a big surprise to me, so I guess she was not impacted by the parking, busses, people, etc at HH buildings.

As always...each to his own.

After a gjillion stays at OKW, I definitely have my favorites. The whole resort is wonderful, but I will always try to steer clear of 11-14 and 28-29. Unlike others, I am not a huge fan of the Old Turtle Pond area either. For some reason, every time we get that area our room has had view issues. One time our balcony looked out at the end of another building (didn't even think that was possible at OKW), one time we were so surrounded by vegatation we got claustrophobic, and one time we were too close to the highway and had both view and noise issues.

My favs are 45-46, 55-56, 15-21, 51-54

We were able to book HH at 7 mo out for spring break this upcoming March. We wanted to be close to the main pool and basketball court for our boys. We don't have a car, so parking won't bother us.
