OKW - Location Question

We are looking at a the "availabilty" postings for OKW for a Grand Villa (a little pre-planing for a future trip - just testing summer availability) and are confused. In June, July and August there are no reported outages of GV's "Near Hospitality House" and some limit unavailability in the "General Resort"

That is the difference between "Near Hospitality House" (aside from the obvious location) and "General Resort"

It seems counter intuitive that the general resort would be more desirable and therefore book up faster) than near Hospitality Hosue - I would think people would prefer to be closer to the Hospitality House and request those first.

What are we missing here?

Thanks

Bob

There is only one GV actually located in the near HH category of buildings. However, we do not know if anyone who is reporting GV availability for that time period requested to be near HH. Many OKW owners prefer to not be near HH (myself included), but prefer in the quieter areas of the resort.

My guess is, with only one GV, that the near HH category is probably booked.

Thanks - that makes a lot of sense.

So do you think that a Non-OKW Home Resort owner will have too much trouble getting a GV at OKW in August? This is pre-planning for a 2010 trip and the bottom line is that with the point structure we can get 5 nights at our home resort (AKV) or 6 nights at OKW for a GV - six is better! But we're worried about getting shut out of anywhere if we wait until the seven month window. On the other hand, since we are borrowing from future years, we don't want to borrow for AKV only to find that we didn't need too and then have to "burn up" some borrowed points.

In other words, tell me we can get a GV in August booking at the 7 month window please.

Thanks again

Unless you are borrowing more points from the next use year than the OKW GV would take, I would book at SSR and try to switch at 7 months. They can use those borrowed points first, and you can bank any current use year points, assuming you are within your normal banking window.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but I've heard from lots of people here that they actually prefer to be further away from the "action", in an area that's quieter.

We much prefer the non-HH areas of OKW. The biggest charm of OKW, to us, is its relaxed atmosphere. We find that the HH area gets very crowded with cars and there is a lot of general activity, which takes away from that relaxing environment. We prefer the Turtle Pond or South Point areas. Both are just a quick walk or bus ride away from the HH area.

We've stayed in all of the areas of OKW and the HH area would be our last choice.

After reading the responses, that's starting to make sense to me, I just assumed people would want to be closer to "the action" but I guess I was wrong.

Thanks everyone for the replies

We did not request HH but last year(in June to be exact) we got the GV that is in bldg 15 which is close to HH and though in years past we were given GV's in the back forty, it was nice to be close to the main pool, restaurant etc. To date I have never made special requests, I've taken what was assigned and I've never been disapointed. I like the surprise element!

Good luck to you!

Building 15 is not considered part of the Near HH booking category, none of the Miller's Road buildings are in the category, though they are physically located nearby.

This family agrees about HH area. We also prefer Turtle Pond or South Point. Even Miller's Road isn't bad.

The buildings directly adjacent to HH, could have parking problems. There are so few parking places at the HH, that people overflow over the resorts in the close vicinity in order to shop, dine and swim.
