With all the upgrade talk about OKW & SSR, I myself got curious about OKW in particular. Never thought I would ever want to stay there, but did pass by the resort in our boston whaler we rented in May & it looked peaceful & quiet & that's what I'm all about! There is no FAQ or sticky on the resort, so I was looking for any info or opinions about room location, condition of the rooms, & just anything about the resort itself. Thanks in advance-who knows might try something new!

If you like "peaceful and quiet" you will LOVE Old Key West! It is very laid back with huge rooms and full-sized balconies on every villa. It's a great resort if you have a car as you can park right outside your building. If you don't have a car there is an internal bus system that works well and plenty of "quiet pools" so you are never far from a pool (and hot tub, even at the quiet pools!).

Here is the DIS's FAQ:

And here's one from All Ears:

I love OKW. I've stayed there many times. Here's some floorplans.

The studio

The one bedroom

If you get the studio, you get two queen beds. If you get one bedroom, you get ONE king bed, and in the living room, you get a fold out couch and a full kitchen and a washer and dryer.

FYI, if you had more than one room booked at a value and are looking for upgrades at OKW, you can request a one bedroom and a studio next to each other in what is called a "lock off" See the DVC boards for more info. But what you would get is basically a two bedroom, but there would be a locked door between the bedroom with the two queen beds and the rest of the villa. But you would be all together.

Looking forward to other's pictures.

I never gave the DVC resorts much thought, until the saga of where to stay this time came about. I won't bore you with the details of 4 resort changes that our plans have gone through, but we decided finally on OKW. The reasons have largely been detailed by others in this thread already.

We wanted somewhere that was quiet with a space that would not be your typical hotel room. I think we found our perfect place to be for this vacation. I have high hopes of talking Gabby into purchasing DVC after our stay.....I am not holding my breath, but I would love to know that we owned a piece of the mouse.

Anyway, I thought that I would share yet another link that might help with your decision. http://www. insert Mouse Owners dot com here/OKWHome.html Maggie

If you really like OKW, I would suggest that you purchase a resale from one of the DVC board's sponsors The Timeshare Store: http://www.dvc-resales.com/ You could save thousands of $$ over DVC's prices!

OKW is amazing! It is quiet and peaceful. The restaurant, Olivia's, is great. We love the main pool and usually ask for a room close to it. The views from the rooms are terrific. And it has the largest living / dining room space of all the DVC resorts. Two couches and a large round table with 6 chairs. Truly awesome!
