OKW GV "given" to nonmember for 10 days!

I received this as well, but I often don't put a lot of credence in what I read. Just because it is in print doesn' make it true. However, I do think it is possible.

Of course the story could be untrue...heck, almost everything posted online anywhere "could be" untrue. But I think the thing is, as Diane said, it does seem to be something that is possible. Remotely perhaps, but possible.

Disney does walk a fine line between being generous when they make a mistake and giving in to bullies who just want everything for nothing. And it does irk me knowing that I've seen people at the front desk with real problems with their rooms that seemed to be getting nowhere with having the problems resolved....but a whiny little brat of an adult with no real case could possibly get what they want, even an unreasonable demand.

Honestly, I laughed when I read that "Kevin" "was not rude, just a little upset". Geesh! I mean, I think demanding an OKW GV just because you didn't have to get your room preference at a moderate is pretty rude to begin with!

All in all, whether the story is true or not...the very possibility of this is something to consider...though it would be much more useful for WDW management to consider it rather than a bunch of DVC members on a message board! But hey, its something to talk about!

LOL! That was my thought too!

I don't believe PKS44 is trying to doing anything beyond share information. He's just discussing the situation.

I agree that anything is possible from WDW. However, there are also a lot of folks out there who have a chip on their shoulder about DVC (I have no idea why) and take every opportunity to try and show how much "smarter" they are than DVC owners. This sounds like a story someone like this would make up and put out there in "cyberworld".

I would be/am disappointed if the facts of the case are as stated and that WDW did indeed give them a GV for no other reason than their requests (non-guaranteed requests) were not met.

I just had a funny thought! What if the GV he got was the one scheudled for rehab, and it was in bad shape! Funny thing is, he probably wouldn't even notice!

The quote "3 adjoining rooms" seem a little fishy to me. When day one of our eight day ressie had to be waitlisted, I tryed to book 2 rooms, adjoining, @ CBR for us and the kids. I was told by CBO that adjoining rooms at CBR are few and far inbetween.
Has anyone heard of 3 rooms that join??

Besides, ya know what they say, The sqeakie wheel get the most grease........

People get confused between adjoining and connecting. Adjoining just means next to each other, connecting has the door in between.

PKS44 - I don't think anyone thought you were the troll.

PKS, I don't think the person who said something about a troll was referring to YOU being the troll...I think they were referring to the original poster of your link being a troll. As least, that's the way I interpreted their post.

If this is true, "Kevin" is a ******* who happened to get lucky and get a manager on the day he checked in that either was easily intimidated or was in a really kind mood!

Hope no one minds if I shift the focus a little here-what is this newletter and how do I get it? Sounds interesting!

I think the thread starter posted back that it is a yahoo newsgroup:

Anyway I thought GVs are not rented out for cash? If that is the case would that not make this unlikely?

Newsletter where this story appeared doesn't provide anything you can't turn up on your own. IMHO, many of the 'experiences' people post there often don't ring true.

Anything is possible but...........
I too find this very unlikely. I do not mean to call anyone a liar but this story just sounds awful fishy.

the newsletter is free..it has some discounts on restaurants and tickets that are sometimes helpful...it is a just another tast of Disneyworld in the mailbox which is always fun...I forget how I got on the mailing list....

GVs are not excluded from being rented for cash. It's not impossible that one might even be empty on a given night.

Hmmmm...I wonder if this is the same guy whose group caused such a disturbance in Olivia's that they had to call security? His party (several children and maybe 4 or 5 adults?) was having dinner at Olivia's on a night that the kitchen was having trouble with the ovens. I overheard the woman yelling at the manager about how they had to wait 15 minutes for their table and that was just unacceptable. And then their children were running around the restaurant, getting under the feet of the waiters (as they were coming out of the kitchen with their hands full) and screaming bloody murder. Without going into too much detail, the problem started when a dining guest asked if the kids could possibly sit in their seats and that the restaurant wasn't a playground. It ended in the entire party being escorted out of Olivia's because the other guy started threatening the guest who requested that the kids behave!

The dates match up, at any rate. It really wouldn't surprise me. This particular group of people were obviously not members and definitely not accustomed to thinking of anyone but themselves. Very bad scene.

I'll hate myself later for responding to this post but what the heck---

Before BWV, BCV, WLV---June of '94. I planned a great 11 day trip to WDW---This was before I knew about the Dis. I reserved a room at Dixie Landings at rack rate---I think then it was somewhere in the $130 range. Well long story short--8 hour flight turns into a 12 hour travel adventure--which ends up getting us to the resort at around 11:00 pm. I go to the check in desk to learn our room had been given out as staff thought we were going to be a no show. I had a paid confirmation for the our first night.

My husband is handicapped--- and they gave our room away. I was not happy!!!!!! I tried to talk to the desk clerk--who kept going into the back and when i'd veto one of "their" options he'd go back and talk to that person again. All this time---I'm tired, kids are tired, But not husband he's over talking to a young man about pool. After going back and forth with the desk clerk---I suggest the person with authority to make an offer I might accept come to the desk and we'll handle this face to face. I ask Husband to come over and assit me as the guy he was talking to was gone. -------

Dale comes over just as the man he was talking to comes out of the office area. Yep! that guy was the manager. The guy offered us a one bedroom at the Disney vacation Club. Said I'd love it---Oh, silly me I was still not sure if I should accept--but when he said if after I looked at it and if I still wasn't happy he'd work something else out for us. ( They even transported us as we had an electric wheelchair to get over there).

I went to bed every night saying " Isn't this a great place?"----

Just thought I'd share----Probably not compareable to the grand villa---but to us it was pure splendor.

Patty

Patty,

Your situation is different because they gave your room away. In Kevin's case, they were just unhappy with the building/floor assigned, rooms were available. I'm sure there are people who are unhappy that they did not get their requests everyday. Having someone post that they can get a better resort by complaining sets up a precident that many will now complain if they did not get their requests and expect to be moved. After reading Kevin's entire post, I have a hard time believing it.

Patty, I also agree your case was different. They had absolutely no other rooms to give you at Dixie Landings because of their actions. I believe you were fully entitled to that 1 bed OKW villa. But for this person (assuming his post is legit) to be given a GV JUST because he didn't want the rooms in the Trinidad section of CB, is preposterous and unfair to me. If I had gotten a GV for every room request that I made that was not honored, I would have had a half dozen stays in an OKW GV.
