Hi all, need OKW experts here for info on GV. (I've been on hold for 40 minutes to OKW, and still no answer, so ....)

I'm bringing grandparents next Oct. (diabetic, quadruple bypass, and can't walk well).... Last year we got a 2BR around building 55 (near the HH). THey loved it, because it was ground floor, and they didn't have to walk anywhere far. Note: I give them the master bedroom.

So now I'm thinking of getting a GV, to get us more space, but the only GVs I've had you had to walk up step to get to the main level / master bedroom. I know extra rooms are up, but we can do that fine..... Do they have GVs on the ground floor, or with elevator at OKW? And are they close to the HH?

Or I'm thinking or requesting two 1BRs....

Anyone have expert opinions or info.

I thougth of going to SSR (with the elevators), but they love OKW, and aren't into change....

Thanks, Goldi

There are two GVs in building 63 that are elevator accessible, and I believe building 48 has 1st floor handicapped accessible GVs.

Forgot to mention, that you need to make that a medical request! It might mean you will get the HC GV with wheelchair access shower and counters, but you will be on a ground floor. If you want to just make a request and hope for building 63, you can try that route too.

If you are renting a one or two bedroom unit, it is enough to request "first floor for Medical reasons" because they fill those requests before the "general" requests for first floor. There are a lot of first floor one and two bedroom units. That doesn't work for GVs because there are so few of them that are on first floor or in the elevator buildings (and all of them are handicapped accessible). If you requested first floor and someone else reserved a handicapped one, they will get it and you will be out of luck. That happened to a poster recently with a GV.
If they can't climb stairs, you will need to reserve one of the handicapped accessible GV. When you make your request, say that you need the handicapped room, rather than just first floor of elevator. Your confirmation sheet should say something like "Handicapped Accessible villa confirmed."

We have stayed in both the elevator GV and the ground floor one. They are as nice as the others with the needs of the handicapped. They still have the 4 bathrooms which is nice for a large group. The shower in the master is a roll in but we had no trouble using it without that need. It has a shower curtain so there will be water on the floor. Just put a towel on the floor outside the curtain. It works fine. Just remember, as others have said, to tell them you need a confirmed handicapped GV. They will put you on hold and check and let you know right then that you have one. Hope your trip is great. Also, if you need one, they have wheelchairs at the desk you can use for free. Just ask for one or two, whatever you need. We usually get 2 because of our group needs. You can take them into the park. Just remember to lock them when you aren't in them. We lost ours last year but got it back.
