OKW fans - can someone help me to cheer up a bit?!!!!

I had always wanted to stay at the GF also, so for our anniversary last year we stayed one night at the GF and then went to OKW. (Our actual home resort is the BWV.) We were lucky enough to get a room on the waters edge looking out to the MK. It was nice but as soon as we got to OKW (this was our 2nd stay there), the first thing I told my husband is that the DVC resorts are so much nicer than the GF. We love OKW as much as the BWV and the rooms are SO MUCH nicer and bigger at any of the DVC resorts. Yes the room at the GF was nice and of course the hotel itself is gorgeous but the room was a very average size hotel room. The way I look at it is that I still get to enjoy the GF on every trip as we always go over to eat or shop or just enjoy a walk around the grounds and then we go back to our wonderful rooms at the DVC resorts - the best of both worlds. As much as I love visiting, I have no desire to go back and stay.

My Mom stayed at the GF in the early 90s and loved it. Then she bought into the DVC at OKW - after viewing the rooms she fell in love. The 2br at OKW is HUGE!!!! We had a great vacation with a bunch of friends and the rooms never felt crowded.

The 1br is perfect for a family vacation - enjoy!!!!

OKW is the first place I stayed after my family became a member of DVC. I will never forget walking into the 1 BR and being absolutely bowled over by how spacious, attractive and well-appointed it was. You will end up completely spoiled for any other hotel room.

One of the great parts about OKW, and I think someone has already mentioned it, is that it is so relaxing. It's great to come back from a busy day at the parks and have some peace and quiet. If the kids get bored at night after you are back from the park, there are several pools to take them to; you can rent DVDs for free (I think) as each room comes with a DVD player; there's a game room for them at the main house. The boat ride to and from DTD is a unique way of getting around, too, instead of taking the busses back and forth.

I've stayed at both, and I much prefer OKW over the GF. The 1BR itself, is great with kids and gives you plenty of room to stretch out. You have the feeling of living in a small neighborhood, and the kids can ride bikes, go for strolls, feed the ducks, etc. It is definitely more kid friendly. GF just feels stuffy to me. OKW is like going home. (Yes it is our home resort)

The bus service is not as nice as being on the monorail, but the tradeoff is well worth it, IMO. We also love having a full kitchen, our own laundry facilities inside our room, and that jacuzzi tub!

We always stayed at the Poly before buying at OKW (1993) and I was afraid that I would be sorry because we just LOVE the Poly and still do. But, it is so much easier to stay at OKW especially with small kids, it is so roomy and beautiful. We are so spoiled that staying in a regular hotel room/even concierge just doesn't come into the picture anymore. We know we can use points to stay at they Poly, but somehow always wind up at OKW and occasionally BWV. We almost always go and "visit" the Poly for it is surely a beautiful place. Good Luck and please don't be bummed out---the magic is everywhere.......:D :Pinkbounc
