OKW Dilemma - Update #29

We stayed in the 1 bed when our sons and their friend were 17, 16, 15.

The 3 teenagers shared the bed in the main bedroom and we had the sleeper sofa. The bed was plenty big enough for the 3 of them so it would certainly accommodate 3 small children and give you the option of putting them to bed while you stayed up in the living room for a few hours. Just an idea.

I wish I'd taken a photo of them all asleep - like 3 of the dwarfs in Snow White - except that they were all about 5ft 9inches tall!

This isvreally good, next year we wanna take mil so 3adults and thectins who will be 2 and didnt fancy the 2 bed price

If you go before the twins are 3 you will definitely be fine in a 1 bed - under 3's don't count as far as I know towards occupancy.

The renovated rooms have a sleeper chair, just seen a video on youtube

I've been looking at the 1BV as an option for us given the difference in price between that and the 2BV but we will be 5 but 4 adults (me DH Sister & BIL) + 10 yr old nephew

Would it be a bit cramped do you think?? How comfy is the sofa bed for 2 adults?? and the sleeper chair - is this comfy?? Interested in any comments anyone has.

Thanks

It might be a *bit* cramped with 1 only bathroom at OKW. Also, do both families have the same touring style? Because if you wake earlier you will bother them when you wake up and make breakfast in the kitchen. That being said, the fold out is comfortable (I slept on one with my DD) and any 10-year old worth their salt would love the sleeper chair. Have you considered AKV? The Kidani units have 2 bathrooms in the 1BRs.

Hi there

Thanks for the response

As we can get 45% off OKW or SSR with free dining for pretty much most of 2012 I've not looked at AKV (though might have a sneaky peak now!!)

We've all travelled together before and got on really well (she is my sister after all ;) ) so sure we could work with the 1 bathroom, not ideal but the difference in cost is c£1100 ($1800!) which sort of feels like a lots and we tend to spend so little time in the room it seems a little unjustifiable!!

I know some sleeper sofas/chairs can be a bit hard but good to hear they seem ok :thumbsup2

Thanks again.

We've just returned from 12 days at OKW and are missing it already!
The four of us (2 adults 2 daughters 12 & 14) stayed in a 1br in building 62, right next to Hospitality House. This would be perfect for a family with 3 children although if there are more than 2 adults in your party, I would go for the 2br as this would give you a lot more privacy.
The sofa bed is reasonably comfortable (ask housekeeping for an egg crate mattress topper, this made it more comfortable). The smaller chair has a foam bed and is a lot better, we know this because our daughters somehow talked us into letting them sleep in the main bedroom for the first night, which then turned into the entire holiday!
We tend to spend quite a lot of time at the resort and we love the 1br at OKW, we've looked at other resorts while at WDW and haven't seen anything we like as much.

Well, I took the plunge and went for the 1 bed. Cinders Mum (my TA) sorted it all for me and the total saving was £917! No bedroom is worth that lol. That is either
a) spending money for us for 2 weeks
or
b) almost a grand towards the next holiday.

Happy to have saved so much.:cool1:

Thanks for the update, I was wondering what you had gone for.

FWIW I think you have made the right decision - that is one heck of a price difference.

Hopefully see you in the turtle pond pool!

What a saving thats you got more to spend whilst you are there. We have also considered doing this as it would save my DD1 and her BF some money as she has just started Uni and wanting to save as much as possible.

Good saving. One thing you may want to consider regarding the kid's sleeping arrangements is that if they don't want to share the double pull-out bed, buy a blow-up mattress from Walmart when you get there so they all get a "bed" each.

Good tip, thanks!:thumbsup2

Studio is like a hotel room with 2 uk king size beds, a small kitchen area with undercounter fridge, microwave, coffee pot and toaster. You also get a small balcony. No washer/dryer but you can use resort ones for free.

1 bed has a bedroom with a uk super king bed, jacuzzi bath, full kitchen, lounge with bed settee and sleeper chair, larger balcony, laundry room.

We stayed in a studio 2 adults and a child and have booked to stay again for 2012 in a studio.

For us it's not worth the extra cost for a 1 bed but you do get a lot more room.

A studio would be fine for you - we stayed in one last year (self, DW and 12yr old DD) and found it was much bigger than the usual hotel rooms, with additional area for the kitchenette/wardrobe and further space for the bathroom. Have booked same for next year at OKW.

As noted above, the resort laundry facilities are available free of charge - we did ours at the Turtle Shack pool whilst having a few hours inb the pool, definitely preferred laundry at OKW to home!!!
