I have read some bad reviews for OKW. The decor is a little tired. Not always as clean as it should be.
Would love to hear your coments, and experiences while staying at OKW. Thats Good and Bad please.

I would recommend that you have a look on the DVC threads for more info.

We stayed here and it was lovely. No the rooms aren't brand new, but they were clean, and so too was the resort.

My advise would be stay in a higher floor room rather than the gound, as the ground ones are quite dark inside and your view is obstructed by plants.

I would stay here again no problems, if only we could afford it. If you want sheer luxury, then you maybe want to try off-site.

Remember our American friends are far more picky than us, when it comes to hotel rooms, so I would take the reviews on tripadvisor with a pinch of salt.

American hotels are a fa higher quality than those found in the main holiday resorts of the Med.

If you have any problems with your room at Disney all you have to do is call mousekeeping and they are there in a jiffy.

We've stayed at OKW several times, usually in a 2 bedroom villa, occasionally in the grand villas. We've never had any complaints, only ever had positive experiences.

I agree about the plants, especially in the studios from what I could see.

We will find out in August:goodvibes
It had better be good for what they charge.
I can see why sometimes US guests expect better than we do.
Just priced up our 16 nights OKW, DDP & tix in August on Disney.com $8,310 or £5,978.
We paid £2,164 on Disney.co.uk(and we got 21 day tix, not 10 days on .com).
For what we have paid I expect a nice hotel, if I had paid the US price I would expect 5*. That will be why you find reviews worse than you were expecting.

OKW is our home resort and we love it there. Have only ever stayed in a 2 bedroom but they are really spacious suites and we have loved them all. OKW is close to the magic but the whole resort makes you feel like you are in the Caribbean.

There is only one thing that lets is down in my opinion and that's the lack of a good food court. There is a shack that sells a few things but not on the scale of most other hotels in Disney.

I am very sure that you'll love it there:thumbsup2

Thats one thing that won't bother me, don't like food courts, stayed at ASMovies 8 years ago, food court there would be last place I bought food from. Doubt we will eat any meals in resort, it will be just somewhere to sleep.

I've probably had around 30 stays at OKW - mostly studios and 1 bedrooms and have very rarely had issues other than minor ones. I'm sure people have had some bad experiences with housekeeping - at all the resorts - and they are the ones most likely to post; human nature. (I'd thought about signing up to Trip Advisor for years, but it was only when I stayed in a really duff hotel in Canada that I finally did so - I wanted to tell others ;) )

OKW is showing signs of its age in places, but DVC does a good job of maintenance. It's an attractive, laid back resort that feels a million miles away from the parks. :cloud9:

Wayne the food court is not like the value resorts. God they are awful places. I wouldn't stay in one of those hotels, purley because of the standard of the food courts. It reminded me of a free for all at a horrible hotel I once stayed in on the med.

OKW has is a little counter, where you can get a burger and chips, and other things which are really nice for a CS credit. They also do a nice milk shake too for a snack credit. You can get a portion of chips too for a snack credit. It's handy if you want something quick and the burgers were really nice.

There is also an on-site resturant too, but we didn't eat there, but the menu looked nice.

So don't be put off, give it a try. Another excellent value CS credit is Hary Ramsdens in Epcot.

The restaurant is quite good actually. Very relaxed atmosphere, almost casual. I found it more of an upmarket cafe than a restaurant. Certainly worth trying.

Don't think we will have enough credits to eat TS in resort and can't see us being around the resort for CS at lunch but we will see.:goodvibes

Olivias was rely nice last time we ate there in 2007, only restaurant we went back to twice. Good food, great service!

LOL, and I agree with you about the food courts at the value places ..... but, OKW is literally around the corner from PO and those food courts are pretty good. Most of the time it is easy to get a window table looking out over the water (Riverside) and much of the food is very good. The salads they prepare while you wait are brilliant, and the warm apple pies ....... :cloud9:

I wouldn't recommend any food court at breakfast time though unless you are a lark ...... oh the noise and the lines :scared1: But with your own kitchenette at OKW it's so easy to do breakfast in the room and be on your way.

:scared1: I am on holiday, no chance of that.:rotfl:
We rarely eat breakfast, even when we had it included free at Xmas at Fairfield Inn we only went twice.

Hi,

First post here!

Hopefully looking to go 3rd Aug in a 2 bed - any particular blocks good to request?

We're not bothered about being near the main bit which I understand is popular.

Thanks

ps anyone has any photos please?

Sorry can't help you, this August will be our 1st visit to OKW, just wanted to say welcome:welcome:

the best place to ask about room requests is over on the American DVc forum.

I'm waiting for Wayne to let us all know where he is going to use all his free dining plan, as he's posted before that he doesn't like making ADR's.

Now if you don't do breakfast, then, if you get to MK early, go to the bakery on main street and use your snack credits there for a breakfast. Also the bakery on Boardwalk for a nice strawberry and fruit tart. Sorry, I've gone a bit off topic.

back on topic, here's the OKW lovers thread for all your questions and answershttp://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1375743
