OKW Check in Troubles--Long

I don't disagree with this at all. BUT, I dont find a check-in melt down to fit this category of "letting DVC know".

"Melt-down" - your words, not mine. I agree this is not the way to get a point across.

I agree that the weekly meetings are a great forum to express our displeasure with certain policies but it is virtually impossible for most DVCers to attend.

I know I am not able to attend.

Susan,

Also, the OP stated that they were moved the following day to a room that met all of her requests and the rest of her vacation went swimmingly well. So, there are instances where they have moved people when there is a problem. However, I am sure they would not simply move you if you didn't have a "need" but only a "want" without a fee.

Susan,

Just a quick correction here: Yes, we moved to another studio the next day. The only request meet was non-smoking. We did not get our location request, but a location request is something that if you get; YEAH! if not, no big deal. They were going to charge us a room change fee, until the manager agreed to waive that. We had no idea you had to request a non-HA, and all this business about "medical" reasons and so forth concerning smoking. It is obvious that booking at a DIS Vacation Club resort is way more complicated and streeful than booking at a non-dis property, or coming in as a cash paying customer.

HOWEVER, once we did get a regular studio, we had a WONDERFUL time!

I just don't want to go through all that we have been through in our last two trips. So, we have sold our membership and will choose to experience DIS as cash paying customers.

I DO believe that DIS closes off certain sections of the resorts to limit the work. So at times, when they say the are "full" they mean the sections that they are using are full. SO, if all that is available in that section is a smoking or HA room that is what you get, even though there may be 25 rooms available in the section they have closed. They are pretty sneaky! We have always gone in September and May, and they claim they are full???? Don't believe it!

I disagree with that statement. At least at OKW, when we have been there and they have said they were at occupancy, it was quite obvious that was true! Also, there will usually be some units that are closed for rehab. We wouldn't want it any other way, since we are all prone to complaining when things don't look fresh and new all the time. At OKW, they tend to do rehabs on a complete building at a time if it is interior rehab. For exterior stuff, they usually do it even when the buildings are occupied. I have been there several times when the building we were in was being painted.

My humblest apologies to SUSAN! Somehow I jumped from "treatment of DVC members" to this thread. I was not the OP of this thread and I apologize for my input here. Susan was right.

I am the OP and was quoted correctly. My biggest concern is that my elderly mother and others in her situation should not have to be afraid to come to a DVC resort because they could be stuck in a room that would present medical difficulties. We had done all the right things and they still somehow" forgot" to block out the medical request. If I have given them all the information to assign a a room that would be appropriate for an elderly guest, I should hope that my"home away from home"should not be a medical hazard to my guest. After all this is the hospitality business !!

I agree that it should be this way but it isn't. Just book a HC room next time and you'll be set.

They may feel like a good way to voice your feelings but they are little more than a sales pitch run by salespeople. Don't kid yourself into thinking that a lot is done with any complaints presented in this manner. I'm sure there are exceptions but if you have legitimate complaints, there are far more effective ways to communicate them. Unfortunately DVC has missed the boat on this one. Many timeshares have a weekly meeting dedicated specifically to the management and similar issues like room assignments usually run by the GM, COO or similar and usually one other similar management type. With Marriott they normally have a secretary to write things down and they do follow up on them. It is usually a candid discussion about reburbishment, unit assignments, maint fees, etc. Not DVC trying to get us to spend our points at exchange options or sell more points.
