Just made my very 1st reservation with DVC for OKW. WOOO HOOO!

Am I supposed to request a certain location now, or is that done upon arrival? Also, what would a good location be at OKW? Different strokes for different folks I'm sure, but we enjoy not being too far from a bus stop, food/gift shop, and pool. With that in mind what is a good location to request?

thanks in advance!

We make our preferences known at the time of our reservation. However DVC is quick to state there are no guarantees but they will make an effort to accommodate your requests. It's much easier if you book at the the beginning your 11 month window, especially if you wish to stay near the hospitality house. We have stayed every area of OKW except Miller's Road. We've never been disappointed in any area we have stayed. If we can't get the hospitality house we try to get rooms strategically located near the Turtle Shack with its proximity to the pool, our kids loved it.

There are 5 bus stops at OKW and 4 pools, but only one restaurant. If you want to be near the restaurant, then you need to book at Hospitality House, which is a sperate catagory. Since the buses all stope there last before leaving the resort, you are never farther from the HH than the nearest bus stop. We prefer the canal units for view and ease of access to several areas.

Make your location requests at the same time you book your stay.

We request Hospitality House, and when we checked in we asked for buildings 24-26 - you are just steps away from the Peninsular Road Bus Stop, you are the first to be dropped off coming back from parks, and we always just walked to the Hospitality House (about a minute walk across bridge) to get on the buses there as that is the last stop before heading to the parks. The center villas in each of those buildings have gorgeous water & golf views, especially 2nd floor and higher.
OKW is our favourite resort, and no matter where you stay there, you will love it!:goodvibes

I would call back too see whether there is a room in the Hospitality House category available. That will guarantee that you will be near the pool, gift shop, restaurant and a bus stop. Have a wonderful trip! :thumbsup2

OKW has been our home resort since 1995. It's also our favorite place to stay. We just got back from WDW but I made our ressie so late that we couldn't stay at OKW and instead were put at SSR. SSR is so big, I felt like I was lost in a large condo community. I missed OKW! I love the laid back feeling of OKW and the island music playing throughout the resort. I second the request to stay by the Hospitality area. We like being across the street from the checkin, the store and food options as well as the main pool. The boat to DTD is also here. Buses stop at the Hospitality House last before exiting the resort. Sometimes we disembark the bus at the Peninsula stop as our room is just across the street. Have fun!

Those buildings are now part of the HH room category, which you actually reserve not just request. The HH room category includes buildings 11-14 and 23-26.

I personally love the Turtle Pond Road area, nice views and more quiet. I always have a car so distance isn't an issue.

On our last visit, we requested a room near the Hospitality House, but evidently, we didn't tell them three or four times that we wanted to be there, and we didn't call to reconfirm it three or four times. When we arrived, we were not near the Hospitality House, and they told us that you have to tell them that you really, really mean it. Actually, different CM's told us quite different things about that. But...since it is an actual category, knowing that should make it a lot easier.

That said, we had a room at the Turtle Shack, and we loved it. We used that pool instead of the main pool. We have no regrets!

You can't REQUEST near Hospitality House. As mentioned earlier, it's a seperate booking catagory. If you don't specifically book it, you wont get it.

There are some buildings that are near the HH that are not in the "HH category", those are 62,63,64. Those are also the only elevator buildings. A little farther away are 15, 16, 27, 28.

Again, these are just requests. If the day you check-in those buildings are full, there's nothing that can be done even if you requested it 20 times. OKW also usually uses a "room ready" system, where rooms are assigned at check-in. So if someone checks in ahead of you and requests those buildings, they would get it first if available even if you requested it in advance.

We LOVE staying near the HH. When we're heading out to the parks, we leave from the HH bus stop because it's the last stop before the parks, but when coming home we get off at Peninsular Road because it's the first stop...it minimizes bus time.

We've also stayed in the Turtle Pond areas and loved it, too.

When you love OKW, there isn't a "bad" place to stay!! :cool1:

We were there in September and were in building 28. I would suggest you try to get a room in that number or lower. That will put you close to bus stops and within a reasonable walk to the main pool, store, dining, check in, etc.

It took us about 10 minutes to walk up to the pool, and we were not in a hurry.

We really like it there.

Well, since buildings 28 and 29 have the worst views in the resort, I probably wouldn't advise requesting those but ALL areas of OKW are less than a few minutes walk from HH. All you need to do is catch ANY bus and get off at HH. Also, even staying in buildings 22 and 55 will get you to HH in less than ten minutes unless you are walking at a snail's pace. We usually walk to HH from Miller's Road and South Point for our treks to HH. It might take a bit longer from some of the Turtle pond locations or from building 49.

We've always requested a room in 23-26. It's close to everything. Should you "just miss" the bus to the park you want you can easily make it to the HH and get it there. I didn't know it until my most recent reservation but the have now added rooms near the HH as a seperate booking request. My suggestion is to show up as early as possible on the day you are checking in. Odds are your room won't be ready but they will usually tell you what building you are booked into. If it's not something your happy with and don't mind waiting you can always ask if there is anything else that will be coming available.
