We just returned from a stay at OKW. The renovations are nice, but I'm curious as to why the bathrooms weren't redone. Is there any plan for this in the near future?

Probably not until the next complete renovation - but then they will leave something else undone.

We were in a OKW one-bedroom in May. Everything else had been re-done, but not the bathroom. They are definitely looking dated & the grout, etc. was stained. Not dirty, just discolored from age & use.

I hope during the next reno they get rid of those dark-stained headboards and furniture........................ Maybe something more resembling Key West would be nice....

I miss the ability to store our suitcases and purchases under the bed when we stay in an OKW Studio. The roman shades literally are a pain to roll up and down using the pull mechanism. It always nicks my hand if I forget to pull the shade away from the balcony door when I'm raising it. Ouch!

In recent stays some of the bathrooms appeared to have been freshened, ie. grout and tiles cleaned. Others the stains appeared to be "baked" into the floor tiles and a cleaning and sealing of the grout appeared to be in order.

I wondered the same thing about the recent BWV rehab. It appears that they left the bathrooms alone in that rehab as well. The grout could really use freshening up in all of the villas that we have stayed in at BWV since the rehab.

I'm still trying to figure out how this renovation was 90%!!! We still have the old cabinets and old bathrooms and fixtures. In some cases the old furniture which was just painted. Oh, and I whole heartedly agree that I do NOT think the bedroom redo looks much like the theme at all. I'm okay with the living room/dining room, but the bedroom looks more like standard hotel instead of Old Key West 1900 victorian decor.

Oh, and the only thing they changed in the bathrooms was the one thing that I loved most....The unique paint treatment on the wood wall. Now they just pained it a solid color...Blah! Took away all the character!

Everyone please let DVC know your feelings on this. I asked one of the managers at OKW recently how the new rehabs were being received and was told "everyone" just loves it.

I would definitely let them know that not everyone loves it.

They're not talking to the long time OKW owners. They're talking to the people want BLT but can't afford the price.

Keep in mind that the cost of renovations comes out of member dues, not Disney's pocketbook. Each year part of dues go to the resort's reserve fund, which is then used for repairs or updates as needed.

I responded in a survey that I did not like the reno -- told them they lost the theme of Key West and re-created the Beach Club. I am not at all surprisd that they would say eveyone loved it. They certainly wouldn't say " well, some like it but many think we ruined the theme of Key West..."

I said the same thing. No longer OKW, now Old Beach Club.

After our last stay in Mar. (2br.) I wrote that I was disappointed that the bathrooms were not renovated or at least refurbished. I mentioned the mold and the grout problems.

I also loved the former "OKW" style better.

In this case they had some kicked in from the general DVC funds as well. At least that is what I was told when we were there in January. I certainly have told them my disappointments, so not EVERYONE is happy with the renovations.
