Is a dedicated or lock-off 2-bedroom unit more preferable? Why do you like the dedicated over the lock-off or vice versa?

They usually give you a dedicated if you reserve a two bedroom. There is no kitchenette in the dedicated and only one entrance to the villa. Where the kitchen sink was located, you'll have another bathroom sink. And where the exterior door was located, you have a very large second closet. Plus no patio/porch for the second dedicated bedroom.

It depends on your situation. If you have adults in the 2nd bedroom, you may want to go with the lockoff so they will have their own entrance and own kitchenette. I stayed in a dedicated with 3 friends one time, 2 per bedroom, we preferred the extra sink and extra closet.

What we've found is more important is what buildings to stay in. In some, the master bath can only be accessed via the master bedroom. In others, there is a cut through in the laundry room. This is very important if you have adults sleeping in both bedrooms and kids in the living room n the pullou tthat may need to get up in the middle of the night. Our first year we kept havin gou rbedroom door open in the middle of the night for one of the kids needing to go potty at 2:00 every night.

We stay at BWV so our only option is the lockoffs - but they have been very handy when we have adults in the second bedroom - they get their own fridge and coffee maker - and can have a lot of independance - if they wish it.

I suspect the real issue is in the "impish" and "naughty" stages of childhood. A small child can be deterred with the chain lock. (You can get door alarms). Some people stack their luggage in front of the door. But at a certain age, a kid can undo the locks and move luggage - and it becomes a "do you trust your kids" question. At six and seven, I wouldn't hesitate to put mine in a lockoff - at five, they can move chairs and luggage and don't really "get" why this isn't funny - and ask me again when they are fourteen and fifteen.

To get the OKW rooms with a "cut through" the laundry room, request buildings 30 and higher. The other resorts all have 2 entrances into the master bath.

Debbie b is right....it depends on your group. If some of your party would like a separate kitchenette or their own outside entry, a lock off would be better. The downside to a lock off is that the outside entrance and kitchenette take up a lot of space. We have four daughters and really don't need the lock off features and would prefer to have the extra space. The point about the extra access to the master bath is also something to keep in mind. If someone is sleeping in the living room on the pull out sofa, they either have to use the master bath or the bath for the second bedroom. Without the extra door into the master bath, they have to either go through the master bedroom or the second bedroom to get to a bathroom. With our family, this really isn't a big deal so we don't mind the "older' Old key West buildings.

I learned that a few years ago, and as long as no one else does it before 7 months out for the first Sunday in June, nobody gets killed ya see...
