I got a blister on Friday. I've been trying to keep it clean all weekend. It was doing really well, didn't hurt, felt fine.

Today I did four miles. That blister is MAD, hot, hurts even right now with bare feet and I got a matching one on the other foot. Lovely. So I wanted to get in the pool tomorrow (the idea of chlorine in it just doesn't seems like the pain from that will be worse than popping out another kid.)

Any suggestions? I've got mole skin around the blister, not on it. I've been putting neosporin on it. It HURTS so bad and looks really awful. Anything else I can do for it?

Thanks in advance!

I am the queen of blisters, particularly when I'm at WDW. I know that this isn't the proper medical advice, but I always open them with a pin, let them drain, and then drown them in neosporin. They hurt far less when the bubble is gone.

::yes:: That's what I'd do too. Pop it, drain it completely, neosporin...

Then either moleskin the next day or just a whole lot of lube (body glide or vaseline) the next time you walk.

There are some great bandaid brand bandages that are made specifically for blisters - place over it and just let it stay on until the blister is reabsorbed. I had "monsterous" blisters (ohmom, too) last year after WDW 1/2 marathon and though I did not have these with me at the park - I bought them when I got home (4 days later) and they worked really, really well.

Ohmom (Molli) reminded me today that it was this time last year we were at the park and we wish we were going again and I said, everything the same but the monsterous blisters and I would pack my bag in a minute!

Thank, I found some of those in my bandaid drawer, they were leftover from the Avon walk I did, I've got one on the smaller of the two blisters. The one that's really bad is very raw and I'm concerned about infection so I've been trying to keep it clean, disinfected and letting it dry out a bit. I'll have to check it out in the morning again.

I wonder if those things come in bigger sizes, the raw part of this blister is much larger than that little pad on the bandaid blister thing.

I have to say that the second skin burn pad I found last night really helped a lot. It's cooled the blister down a lot. It still hurts but not as bad it's just really raw and it's been a little weepy. Ick.

I'll re-evaluate in the morning. I really need to get into the pool tomorrow. I'm so sore from not being able to walk well today that yesterday's 4 miles are killing me. :)

If your getting blisters, you might want to make sure your shoes fit right.

We have a shoe store here that fits you- they guarantee the fit. Let me tell you it makes a heck of a difference! I ran saturday and got a blister, because I wore the wrong sneakers. I knew it when I put them on- but I did it anyway.

I popped it and let it dry...tried to keep it as open as possible and its almost healed.

I too have to swim on Sunday- and am dreading it!

OK quit popping your blisters.

Seriously

If you can leave the blister whole do that. However, if the blister creates other issues such as not being able to walk, etc you need to open the blister by carefully cutting a small slit in the blister just inside the blistered skin (i.e. next to the good skin). The slit doesn't need to be very long but does need to be long enough so that you can completed drain. Draining take the pressure off and reduces the soreness. Then take Neosporin and fill the cavity with the antibiotic salve and bandage tightly.

This difference from popping is that you open the would just enough to get teh Neosporin into the area. You always run a risk of introducing germs when you open with a pin or otherwise pop. This allows you to fight those germs as long as the wound is there.
