Okay, These Tipping Threads Have Me Nervous...

I generally do not tip delivery people. But reading the DIS, I find that some people do.

Here's my dilemma. Tomorrow, I am having a treadmill and weight stand delivered. It has already been assembled in the store--it will be delivered "whole" and placed in my basement. I have paid $150 to the fitness store for delivery service.

Do I tip the delivery people? I don't want to. I feel as if I've paid the $150 for the delivery. Why would I tip? But, I could be wrong...

I am from New York, I tip everyone! Anybody who delivers anything to my house gets at least $10. I've lived outside Atlanta for a little over a year now. My neighbors are horrified to hear I tip, they don't tip anyone and no one looks for a tip. I just feel more comfortable doing it.

Okay, so maybe it's a regional thing? I've never heard of any of my friends/neighbors tipping the delivery people, but who knows?

Another NYer here and we always tip delivery people! From the chinese food delivery guy all the way up!

I always tip anyone who does a service for me. (i'm from NY also, must be a "City" thing)

I tip for food delivery, and I've tipped movers, but I don't usually tip for basic furniture delivery.

I don't tip for things like furniture because of the hefty delivery charge. Maybe I've been doing it wrong too!

I'm having furniture delivered tomorrow - a whole room full. I intend to tip each man $20. I think the store takes the delivery charge.

I have never tiped for delivery of fitness items or furniture etc. Unless they went out of their way to help move or remove something else for me.

i never tip for that kind of stuff - you are not alone.

I only tip for food delivery.

I never tip for anything like furniture delivery or any type of installations. I am from the Northeast (outside of PA) and I never heard of people tipping for these type of things until I started reading the DIS. I think it must be a regional thing.

I don't tip for a service I am already being charged extra for.

Me, either. I only tip the pizza delivery guy.

If I'm paying a delivery charge, I'm not tipping.

Another NYC'er here - and I tip for every delivery. Had a Flat Panel TV delivered last week and tipped the deliverymen...

We could get hurt if we don't :rotfl2:

I was the one who started the most recent tipping thread (about tipping the mobile auto glass service guys--I ended up not tipping them). I tip any food delivery people. I tip furniture delivery people if they seem to do an especially good and careful job (although when we had a bed delivered and assembled recently, I tipped because it seemed like the guy was working really hard and making sure everything was just right--but then after he left we discovered he had really bungled the assembly!)

I wouldn't have considered tipping the auto glass guy except that I have two friends who tip for EVERYTHING and that makes me second-guess my tipping habits--come to think of it though, one of those friends is from NYC and the other from New Jersey (we are out west), so maybe it is a regional thing!

I wouldn't tip. I didn't tip the guys that brought my treadmill. After reading all these tipping threads I tried to tip someone and was embarrassed when they refused it - so I'm sticking with waiters, hairdressers, etc.

I've never tipped the furniture or appliance delivery guy - not after the price they charge to deliver in the first place. I'd probably tip the food delivery guy, but I live in the middle of nowhere, and there aren't any places who deliver to us :)

I am another one who only tips for food deliveries. I should of given my mailman something at Christmas time because of all the packages from Ebay sellers. Maybe its not to late.
