Okay.
So I guess there was that girl that killed herself over MySpace.
It's horrible.
But...
MySpace didn't kill her.
She killed herself because of things that were said.
I'm sorry...
I might be wrong.
But MySpace was just used to send the messages.
Most people don't have any problems with the site.
So don't get offended when I say I'm getting sick of hearing about how bad MySpace is.
It's like saying no one in the world can drive over a bridge because someone might jump off it.
I do have an account that I rarely ever get on.
I would rather be on Dis with you guys.
But I just had to get that out there because it was bothering me.
There are many bad things about MySpace but it also has some good qualities.

Myspace can be used for good, but people choose to abuse it.

Are you watchign Dr.Phil XD
thats whats on.

And I agree.
It wasn't myspace's fault.
It was totally the neighbours fault.
They should be charged with...something.

It's kind of funny, I was just saying pretty much the same thing to my mom this morning.
Except I said, "You know, I'm really sick of the media blaming myspace for everything. If your daughter wants to take pictures of herself dressed like a hoochie-mama and then put them on the internet and talk to some random stranger then it's her fault, not myspace."

Thank you.
I'm glad someone else agrees.

You really can't blame Myspace for that stuff.

If you were being abused then why continue going on it ?

But you cant hold Myspace responsible it just where the people were talking, like if they were talking on like Aim or something, you can't hold it responsible.

People who have accounts should be more responsible with them then.

If Myspace is still around when I have kids, I won't be allowing them on there.

It might not be Myspace's fault, but they could run their site better.

I understand why the parents would want to blame myspace for this whole thing, i mean they just don't want a reason to put any blame on their daughter. But I think the point is that you really don't know who's on the other end of the computer and it is your responsibility to be wary of who you are talking to, you can't expect myspace to protect you.

I totally agree.
Don't tell people where you live or how old you are or anything like that.
Keep your page private.
Keep your pictures to yourself or don't post any at all.
Your friends know who you are.
It's a great way to keep in touch.
But you have to be smart or something bad can happen.

Even though it's just YouTube, my friend showed me hers on her computer one day. I couldn't believe everything she was saying. My friend has a MySpace, too. She said that she didn't have any info on it. I don't believe her. On her YouTube she had her first and last name, what school we go to, and lots of other info. .-.

i would have no problem with my children being RESPONSIBLE on the internet.

The problem with all these stories lies with the parents. The parents are not educated enough or juts don't care enough to pay attention to what their kids are donig on the internet. It is the mothers fault too for not saying "OH HECK NO YOU CAN'T ADD SOMEONE YOU DON'T KNOW! YOURE NOT EVEN OLD ENOUGH TO HAVE A MYSPACE. GET OFF THAT COMPUTER NOW YOURE GROUNDED FOR LYING ABOUT YOUR AGE"

-off soapbox-

i think that there was a thread on this earlier. either way, while its sad, i agree with everyone else who says its not myspaces fault. of course, that doesnt mean it shouldnt take steps to prevent it. maybe monitoring whats acutally being said would be the first step..

its not myspaces fault at all... you can do A LOT to keep yourself safe on myspace.... for example... JUST PUT YOUR PROFILE ON PRIVATE! ... lol.. its what i do... and for every friend request, you have to accept them before they can do anything.. only accept people you know... i think the reason why myspace is getting all the blame (and stuff like facebook isnt), is that it attracts younger internet users... and generally, the younger they are, the more wreckless they are, and the more vulnerable they are... its really up to the user to make it safe or dangerous....

You can't put myspace at fault for irresponsible people using their site incorrectly.

The girl had problems anyway... at least the one I read about. She shouldn't have been on there. I don't have a MySpace and I don't want one - it looks creepy.

It's really not that bad.

But the girl was talking to a "fake" guy for one.
She shouldn't have been talking to anyone she didn't know.
And...
When she started geting abused over the internet she should have told someone.
Her mom... or maybe even the police.

So many things should have been done.

But I don't understand why when a guy told her "I like you" over the internet and she didn't even know who he was she didn't block him automatically.

She was mentally unstable. You couldn't expect her to think properly.

The girl had had a very hard life, so when someone said they liked her, it meant a lot. She trusted him. As bizzare as it sounds, she did, she trusted him. And her mom, however wrong it was, saw how happy she was and didn't want to screw it up.

So of course when he started spreading rumors, she freaked, she came undone. Because she was unstable. I can't imagine the thoughts that were racing in her head.

Understand the story, the girl, before you criticize it.
