Just got back from a charity auction that featured an open bar but not a lot of food:rolleyes: needless to say I am now the proud owner of a bunch of things I don't know what I'm going to do with......hey-at least it was a charity event:rolleyes:

It sounds like they knew what they were doing. :D

You made me laugh right out loud! Sounds like something I would do, LOL

So what did you get? Come on, you can tell us. :teeth:

okay, the 3 or twelve glasses of wine and the 2 crackers I had are starting to wear off............ We now own a wooden bunkbed-I think it's going in DD10's room, but before we do that we will have to clean out her room and paint it (I think we bought it so she could have sleepovers, either that, or we bid on it because we were the youngest people there as it was an auction for the local historical society),some GC, can't remember where they are for, and a framed photograph of a peace pagoda near us that DH bid on as I gift for my ESL student (his intententions were good-she is a Budhist nun from South Korea, but the temple in the picture is a Cambodian temple, and the practices and treatment of women are different, so we now own a photograph of a Cambodian Peace Pagoda). Okay, maybe we didn't do so badly. Except the bed. Really not sure where we're going to put that.....

p/m me your phone number I got some real good buys for you, and have another drink ;)

ROTFL, I SO can relate to this! :teeth:

We go to a very ritzy charity auction every June that includes LOTS of free wine and food (it's actually a wine tasting too) and funny thing, I have come home with some real DOOZIES myself! ;) We have yet to use the VIP tour of Paramount studios and seats to see Frasier, plus I bought some wine that tasted good at the time but after the fact is just not good.

Just think of it as a tax deduction and enjoy. :)

That's an interesting assortment. :)

DS has a bunk bed that makes his room almost claustrophobic. It's just too big for his small room. We decided to take the top bunk off and put it on the floor. Then we added the mattress for both the top and the bottom bunks. We put the frame from the bottom bunk in the attic. The result is a high platform bed. I made a long dust ruffle for the bottom and we have several large storage bins underneath for all of his junk. When we need an extra bed, we just take one of the mattress off and put it on the floor. It works great and his room seems much bigger now. :)

LOL!!! The bunk bed will work out fine in the long run. And you did something nice for charity. This is very funny though. :teeth:

Alcohol - the key to a successful silent auction!!! We had our first auction two years ago in the school hall, and we weren't permitted to sell alcohol. We did pretty well for a first effort, but nothing like last year! Last year we had the auction at Army-Navy Country Club with a cash bar. My DH, who loves to observe people, noticed that after the third trip to the bar, most people immediately went to the tables to up their bids.

We tripled our $$$ over the previous year.

Alcohol always loosens up the wallet...

and other things....
