Okay, now I need info about the PIN EXCHANGE?

I admit I am TOTALLY clueless! Get used to me --- for the next 4 months, I'm going to be peppering you with dumb questions!

What's up with exchanging pins? With whom do you exchange them? How does it work? What do they look like (a link would be very nice, thank you!)? How do you carry them around? How many should a child have to start with?

I just got back from there and it was my first time trying it and it was really great and you can buy a lanyard to wear them on. Its fun trading with cm's, and others. But im warning you that it is addictive

You can get the basics at www.odpt.com- it has all kinds of pins listed, and how to trade. I don't think it mentions the support groups most of us need once we become addicted though

you can trade them with anyone who wants to trade (cast members HAVE to trade with you if you ask)
you carry them on lanyards, hats, vest, anything you want pretty much (i have a pin bag)
i think i started out with like 6? and now i have like 60

If you are into Ebay you can buy some there much cheaper than at the parks. Bring those with you to trade with the CM (cast member). Most of them wear their pins on a lanyard which you can also find on Ebay. The sell starter sets at Disney which I believe is 6 pins and a lanyard. You can also find those on Ebay. If you go to ebay do a search under Disney trading pins.

Our first trip was last July and the pin trading became addictive and $$$. We knew nothing of this entertainment until we were there. Pretty soon, we were buying an endless amount of the winnie the pooh sets because they were the cheapest ($20) and the ones DD8 liked the least (easier to trade away).

For our next trip...I got smart though. I have set a $4 limit including s&h on ebay (a single pin can cost $6.95 or more at the park) and have been stocking up. Some sellers offer s&h discounts on multiple pin purchases. DD now 9 & I look at the pins and bid on ones she isn't crazy about, but we think will be good trades (FYI-We actually had a CM refuse to trade with her because she already had one of the same pins and didn't like any of the other ones DD had on her larynad. ).

When we get back to WDW we will split the pins into the number of days at the parks and she can trade until her pins are gone. We put the 'new' pins in our bag so they don't get traded away.

Another FYI-When DD was trading we noticed some CM had pins on backwards, so you were looking at the pin back versus the pin. One of the CMs told us the pins worn backwards are either rare, retired, or something else (sorry-can't remember).

Make sure when buying online you ask the seller if they are indeed the kind you can trade at Disney. There are different kinds of pins and some are not Disney tradeable..sorry not smart enough to know the difference, so I have to ask folks. I also check their ebay ratings and replies to help ensure I am doing ok. I am a newbie pintrader and this worked for me. I have 3 kids so I bought the lots of like 50 pins and gave them to the kids to trade with. That worked well. the hard part is when you start getting ones you like and don't want to trade. It is also hard to get the kids to understand the concept that some pins are special(like if if I bought them a special one) and shouldn't be traded.

on the back they'll have the disney copyright thing on them, or say disney trading pin, and things like that.
