Okay I'm venting...

Everyone has a right to expression or dialogue, thank goodness we live in a free country. Whether it's the Yacht Club or an AS Resort, the excitment people talk about is the same. I think it's all great! This is not going to change here or anywhere else any time soon, the fact that some people can do more or spend more than others. So does this mean some here shouldn't express their excitement because they are able to stay at a deluxe? Do some people lose site of what's important in life? Of course, we all do. But please don't rain on someone else's parade!

RobinLyn:)

I see so many people griping because they didn't get the room they wanted at the Yacht Club or they don't have a Magic Kingdom view at the Grand Floridian

I see people commenting on if they did or didn't, and excitement if they had a great view..but other than someone paying big bucks for a special room, and being disappointed when they see a wall..I'm not seeing what you are seeing. I'd be upset if I paid for a deluxe, with a view and saw a wall or highway too. Not that this has ever happened, since we've always been lucky to have great rooms, and up til next month, have only stayed at All Stars. Even then we are only moving up to a moderate. I have never felt bad when I have read someone is staying in a fancy hotel on Dis property..just happy for them. I could never justify paying all those bucks..but they sure don't have to justify it to me. Good for them, and I love to read their happiness.

Or just be glad you're going at all. There's alot of people out there who don't have the 'burdon' of choosing between a Deluxe or a Value or a Moderate.

I've never had that burden, but I'm not sure why (unless someone is jealous), it would be something to "vent" about, that others can afford something more expensive and still want an upgrade or the "most" for their money. I don't have a problem with others sharing about their good luck..someday maybe we'll have enough money (although I would prob still stay in a less expensive place..and spend the money on yummy food) to have this burden.

And do you know why? Because they're not going to Disney World at all.

Then chances are good, they aren't on this board, and they won't feel bad that they can't go..after all, this is a board about what to see, how to do it, and getting the most for your time and money at Disney....isn't it?

even though several of you have people who are paying for your trip!

I sure haven't seen many of them...but even if someone isn't paying their own way, how lucky they are to get treated special at Disney.

Wake up!!! Don't you realize that there are far more important things in this world than getting a Savannah View room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge??

Yes, uh..things sure are tough for a lot of folks...and you are right! Most everything is more important than these rooms..but after all, this is the DISNEY board. Lots of lists out there for discussing the world issues. This is a magical list, where most of us are here to plan vacations..maybe to get away from everyday pain.

I just wanted to let everyone know that some of you are sending out a bad signal to first-timers to these boards

Now that I have noticed..seems when new folks have questions about mugs and swimming at other resorts (becasue they are new, and aren't "savy" like us!), they often get jumped on. But I sure never got the impression, that suggesting that you ask if they have an upgrade available, or a room with a view, would be a turn off to new people. I never would have thought of asking for a room by a pool, if I hadn't read it here. I didn't know it was allowed...and I think those of you who told me about it. My last room at Sports was right by the pool! I know I'm always happy when people "brag" about the great prices they got with a code..and I trot myself right over to see if it wil be helpful for me!

Maybe it's time for you to rest from some of the threads that really bother you..or maybe even put some of the posters on ignore (if this is available on this list..I don't know, I've not tried it). Or..maybe it's time to plan a really relaxing vacation somewhere...hmmm, anyone have any suggestions?

I can understand people wanting to have certain rooms in certain resorts with certain views. I have my preferences also. I didn't get anywhere near the section I requested on our recent trip to CSR, in fact they put me in a non-smoking building opposite from where I had requested. Did it ruin my vacation? NO WAY!! I was happy to be at WDW, and to be staying at such a great resort. I was disappointed for about 1 second when I got my room assignment. I think that folks often hold on to something way too long, instead of just going with the flow.

I just wanted to agree with this post -- when I stayed at the Yacht Club I was very disappointed in how far my room was from the elevator - after walking around the parks all day I did NOT want another hike from the lobby to my room BUT it did NOT ruin my vacation - I was THRILLED to even be staying at the Yacht Club which is tied for my fave resort there and I can not afford to stay there as often as I like so if my room was open-air on the roof I would have been happy!!! :D And it was during Hurricane Floyd!!!

AF Brenda ROTFLMAO!! Pod people!! :D That's what those things were! The first time I was at CSR I had to look for the convention center. I was too focused on how beautiful the resort was to notice anything else.

We all get a little excited about planning our trips, but agree that we can sometimes get out of control. ;)

Mandy, dont know about a code but maybe if you tell them its your birthday or anniversary they will give it to you...after all you did have a birthday this year, didnt you? :D

I agree with you Mandy and applaud you for saying what I've only been thinking. I for one am very grateful to be able to afford a WDW vacation even if it is only every couple of years and I guess I hold the same mentality no matter where I go that if I get a complimentary upgrade or better room then I count myself as very lucky and thankful. I don't know of too many other resorts that even take into consideration specific building/room/floor/view requests. Usually it is just smoking or non - king or queen and that is it. I don't understand whow you can book a basic room, get put over the service area when the hotel is sold-out and complain. Chances are taken every day on every vacation - what the weather will be like, will the staff be nice, etc. I stayed in a hotel last spring in Arizona and the hallway outside our room had the heat on 100 every day all day. But I lived with the "inconvenience" of being exposed for all of 5 minutes a day and relished in my overall beautiful surroundings.

And as a relatively new poster I can say it did put me off to see people upset over what I thought were small things. I can understand if this is your once in a lifetime trip but in the end if you get yourself upset over the small stuff sometimes the only one affected is you.

Um sweetie, where do you get your facts from?..hate to burst your bubble...but this place isn't even close to being the largest forum of people on the net.

I'm not sure of the exact figures. But, I know this is one of the largest, if not THE largest, Disney related message board site on the net.

:)

Hmm, I kind of agree with the thread here.... there's nothing worse than seeing thread that says "Our vacation was ruined with?" Where it was someone knocking on their door, or some part of the carpet that was worn or it was that the pool was closed down for a night, or something that is so trivial that they should be woken up to the reality that they were in the happiest place on earth... BE HAPPY... Believe me our trips are often NOT perfect & I'm lucky if one of us doesn't need to go to the hospital at least once (and no I'm not kidding)... We have a revolving account at Celebration Health (okay that's stretching it)... COME ON EVERYONE... if you get what you paid for, BE HAPPY... if you paid for a water view & you got water, or you paid for a standard view & you got a wall, YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT!!!

Now, me on the other hand, we stayed at CSR, we paid for a waterview & we got a view of the laundrymat... you can bet I complained & got my waterview, that's after arriving without our lost luggage!!! Later in this 4 day trip our son got violently sick, yup over to Cel. Health... then we called the airline, couldn't switch our flight without paying the switching fee even though our DS was just released from the hospital.. of course we showed up at the airport & our flight was CANCELLED... we drove right back to the BWV's for the night & had a great dinner, left the next day with a healthy kid & a good meal to add to our weekend... Man, if anything could have gone wrong, it did and WE STILL HAD A GOOD TIME (yes, I was going somewhere with that story!!)

My number one word of experience to my friends is, that SOMETHING in your trip is going to go wrong... it IS, you need to expect that SOMETHING may happen and if it does, you need to deal with it & not let it ruin your experience... As long as everyones healthy, DON'T COMPLAIN!!!! I think that's one thing about the boards, it gives you a false sense that everything is going to go PERFECTLY & it rarely does!

LOL chris!!! Celebration Health....you are so right!

But I still say let everyone who wants to vent! If a torn carpet ruins your vacation, we appreciate the laugh. If your view was awful, ask for a different room and move on. But I love reading these posts regardless. Some are funny and others are just silly. Chris, you vacation story is sad and I won't wish that on anyone. How the heck did you enjoy that vacation? God bless you Chris!

Exactly..and at least what I'm reading, these are the kind of complaints I read about on this board..and those are real reasons to complain. I seldom read that someone paid for a standard room and are now complaining that they didn't get the castle view (I have read where people asked and paid for a much better room, and got a lousy view..and although I don't stay anywhere near the castle, I also can understand the disappoinment after spending a lot of money).

I often read where someone comes back, happy because they got an unexpected or unasked for upgrade (and I don't see anything wrong with someone asking for one, and maybe being just a tad disappointed that one wasn't available..I don't think that that then makes uncaring of a lessor persons plight, or uncaring of all the bad things going on in the world today do you?).

I just went back and re-read several posts..and I just don't see rampant complaining that people were unhappy with their lot in life at Disney. Sure they may ask for info, so they don't end up way in the back and have a long ways to walk on the next vacation, but I don't see anything wrong with trying to have the best vacation for your money you can have.

On the other hand, if you are able to afford the best, paid for the best, good for you, and I want to hear about your trip as well as the trip to the Allstars (where there is never a bad room LOL)!!

Great post Mandy! I'm glad you were brave enough to post it! LOL! It always cracks me up to hear some of the "complaints" around here sometime. Sometimes it seems that those with the most amount of trips a year, seem to complain the most about the small stuff. I don't have the luxury of going more than once a year. I guess I'm soo thrilled by the fact that I'm actually getting to go that I couldn't care less about the little things.

We have vowed to stay at All Stars from now on and spend our money on other things during our trip and we haven't regretted it yet. The All Star Movies is just fine for us. It always cracks me up to read the posts talking about how "small" the rooms are! To read some of the posts here sometimes you'd think they were in reality matchbox size or something! LOL! We've stayed at DL and would never choose it over ASMO again.

Of course there are also very legitimate complaints here. i.e. CRO! Oh lord I have felt so bad for all the people that have had their vacations almost ruined by CRO! I'll have to tell you most of them seem to be able to control themselves more than I could it it were me! I'd be on the phone, every minute, until it was corrected. A guest should never have to suffer because of CRO's incompetence!

I think we all should never forget how lucky we are to be able to go to Disney even one time!
:D

You know, this is a vacation planning board.

Most times people aren't just venting about room assignments. It's usually several things that have gone wrong and they want to communicate their experience. Who are we to judge if it's an trivial or not? It doesn't bother me. I've learned a lot from the reports on the good, bad and the ugly. If it was all good reports this board would be unrealistic and boring.

If it's bothersome, the best thing to do it avoid it altogether. You can usually tell by the post line if it will be positive or not.

Hey RobinLyn,

It wasn't meant to be sad, honest to god we had a good time after I got over the shock of being placed across from the laundry!!! Although, I didn't mention it took an hour to check in at 10pm... Believe me, that's one weekend we won't forget!!!

I enjoyed it because I felt I was in the happiest place on earth!! I guess because we've gone several times now, we've learned to expect things to go wrong & we also know that usually these things can be fixed... If they can't be fixed, I can come to the board to vent... believe me I think I did come to the boards to vent after being downgraded to the laundry view & having our flight CANCELLED!!!

Oh Mandy (wasn't that a song from the 70's?), I have to agree with you! Doesn't anyone remember the lady whose "vacation was ruined because there was no milk for her son at the Polynesian?" Or the couple whose "vacation was ruined because they served Coke rather than Pepsi in the concierge lounge?" Just plain silly (and awfully shallow) IMHO. But hey that's life!

Still I think it is great that folks from all around the country can come here looking for info, to pose a question, get or offer advice and share their Disney experiences. Lets not be so hard on each other. Save that pent up anger for the pool hoppers....oops - almost got up on my soapbox!:D

Chris1Gill,

Water View - laundry view? If it wasn't a dry cleaner...there might be a funny argument there. "But sir, there's lots of water in the laundry room." LOL!

When people pay for a specific view, and they don't get it, they should absolutely complain about it. And they should be able to come here and talk about their experience without being made to feel like malcontent misfits.

Having said that, I still think that people get way riled up over stuff that, to me personally, would just not be a big deal. I think that is what Mandy was talking about.

I agree with you, DMRick. I don't see this rampant negativity everyone else is talking about, either, but I certainly think people are entitled to vent now and then without being told they should just be happy to be going to DisneyWorld at all. Naturally we all know that plenty of people in the world have bigger problems; that is why we come to the Disney planning board to talk about these niggling little vacation planning snags. There is no one else who would care, listen, or even know what the heck we're talking about!

My last (and only) WDW vacation went off flawlessly, with no disappointments, so I don't think I've been guilty of being a "complainer", but I certainly don't begrudge anyone letting off a little steam when things didn't go as planned.

Jen Dawson,

I completely agree with you. I don't see the rampant negatively, either. The complaining or venting threads are pretty clearly identified as such so, if these kinds of messages get on your nerves, you always have the option of ignoring them.

If complaining about DWorld - in light of all that ails us - is indicative of some underlying problem with the poster ... then, what does complaining about the complaining indicate?

I love Dworld. My 10th trip is coming up. The first my husband and I took, in 1986 was disappointing. Since then, I've had wonderul trips. Obviously....I keep coming back! But, I want to hear about the bad, along with the good, so I get the most from my vacation dollar.

I think that some complaints are more than valid. Complaining about being downgraded, complaining about a safety hazard, complaining about very poor service, these are all valid. But you are right. People who complain that their trip was ruined because they had pink flowers rather than purple ones outside their room, or something along those lines really need to rethink their priorities.

Agreed that people who complain because they didn't get an upgrade or the exact view they wanted really have nothing to complain about. WDW doesn't guarantee rooms or views, unless you reserve a specific suite for major bucks, etc. I've been extremely fortunate to have superb castle views on both stays at the GF. But I've also had some pretty yucky views at the BC and the All Stars. I chock it up to luck of the draw. You can't always have it all.

Yes, when there has been a real problem, such as terrible service, then complaining is warranted, provided you also address it with someone at WDW who can help to address the problem so others don't also encounter it.

But you know how it goes. You just can't please some people. But complaining that a vacation was ruined because of a view or a brand of soda makes me wonder if the real problem wasn't something much deeper and from within.

On the flip side, I think that some complaints are more offered as warnings or constructive criticisms.

I'd like to point out that the room size is subjective. In my case, the rooms there are smaller than my bedroom at home. So for me, they do feel matchbox sized.
