I would expect that when someone sends a bridal shower/wedding invitation that they would spend a moment to proof read it. I misspell words all the time and I've made my share of spelling and grammar mistakes on the DIS, but come on!

This is a bridal shower and wedding invitation combo that I recieved in the mail today. I'm showing this EXACTLY as it was sent to me however, I've taken out the location info and last names.

Let me mention the mistake of also receiving this invite 2 DAYS before the event with no way to RSVP. Also the entire address was in undercase letters however most of the remainder of the information was in all CAPS. :confused3 Even worse, I just found out that the groom's name is spelled incorrectly. However, the bride has only known him for 5-6 weeks so I guess we can let it slide since she might not have the spelling down yet.

Ah huck! See.... I'm no snob! :teeth: I'll fix it though! :thumbsup2

The point is that if I were going to send this to a pile of people I would have had at least one or two people look over it for me.

I agree... just having some fun. :teeth:

Bless their hearts...maybe they were in a hurry. I agree I'm not the best speller but with it being something imporant as an invitation you would let others proof read it. I wished we had spell check on the Dis Boards, I could use it.

I know you are ;)

Actually I have a question for those who know all about weddings and such.

I know that fiance and fiancee are assigned to male and female. Isn't fiance assigned to the groom or do I have that backwards? :confused3

Strange. :confused3 I would have gone over it with a fine tooth comb and then had a few other people do the same. Thats just what you do when you send out invites. And kinda tacky to just get it 2 days before the event. But if I remember correctly, this is the same person who just met the guy and sorta tried to "one up" and get married first. So it doesn't surprise me in the least.

God I HEAR you! I screw up more times than I would like to admit, but I would be so embarrased if I were the one who sent this to half the people in my town.

Yes, you remember correctly. This is one of the competitive cousins on my fiance's side of the family who declared that she is "going to be married first!" The cousins compete over everything (Who has the nicest car, ring, house, etc, blah, blah, blah)

I think most of us has one of these too!

:rotfl:

It never fails that when someone has a beef about grammar, THEY end up making a spelling mistake (myself included)! ;)

I know what you mean, sajetto. Especially on something like an invitation, people should take the time to do it right.

On a thread today (which has since been locked, BTW) someone kept piping up, giving their opinion and offering free legal advice (said they were a lawyer). However, this person used NO capital letters, and NO punctuation. A couple people pointed this out, and this poster got a little offended (said that's what secretaries were for). It was difficult for me to try to decipher her posts, so I ended up skipping over most of them. Additionally, it undermined this person's credibility, at least in my eyes.

Sure, we ALL make grammar/spelling mistakes (usually typos), but I think people should at least ATTEMPT to write correctly. I think it shows a lack of respect for others when people don't even try. Again, just my opinion.

I have to ask-what is a "pig picking"? I grew up on a farm and that still sounds scary. :rotfl:

Honey you need to come to North Carolina, that's pretty much a staple when it comes to cook-outs.

Well, you need a pig cooker, a pig and you BarBQ the pig all day. Then family and friends come over and pick out the meat they want. (We usually just take up the meat and chop it up and place it in a pan to serve everyone.) Don't forget your slaw, hushpuppies and sweet tea. :thumbsup2

ME TOO!!! And grammar check as well!!! :thumbsup2

To the OP: With this event tomorrow, have you already gone out and selected the shower gift, seeing as you have only had this invite a short time? And what exactly is a "FLOATING" bridal shower. :confused3

:wave2:

It's where someone buys a hog and a family member cooks the entire thing in one of those smoking barrels and serves it. I can hear Jeff Foxworthy in my head saying "You might be a redneck if......" :rotfl2:

Got it. :teeth: We call it a pig roast in Iowa.

Just another term for having a whole pig roast / picnic.
