Okay, I'm a little concerned...

I am days away from booking a 7-day cruise on the Disney Magic for May 2006, but I've just read some reviews that have me worried. I have a 3-year-old daughter who's really small and a bit shy. I've seen more than one review of the DCL that says that many kids just run wild on the ship with little or no parental supervision and that the Disney staff doesn't do anything to make kids follow the rules (not that they should...the parents should!) I can get really annoyed with parents who turn a blind eye when their kids get out of control. I think there's a difference between letting children have fun and blow off a little steam, and just letting them run amok totally unsupervised by anyone. For example, I'm concerned that we will never get to use the Mickey pool because bigger kids will be running and jumping all over the place. I don't want to come off sounding like some self-righteous perfect parent whose child behaves all the time - not true! But when she misbehaves, I do something about it. I just wonder if this will be too much for her (and me!)

So any reassuring words from you DCL veterans before we book (or don't!)

Thanks

Donna

we had no problems with big kids on our wonder trip in February and my 4 year old loved that pool.

I've not had problems at the Mickey pool either ... don't know about the Goofy pool because I hardly spend any time there. I can't say I've seen kids running wild and totally out of control on either of my Disney cruises. The most annoying children I've run into (other than my own on occassion :teeth: ) have been the ones to hit every single button in the elevator

I didn't see any problems with older kids on my Nov cruise. Note that the bigger kids don't really play in the Mickey pool - it's too shallow. They do use the slide at the Mickey pool, but that doesn't drop into the pool itself. The slide is heavily "regulated" by staff re: one kid at a time, etc.

Note that the pools do get very, very crowded.

Have fun, and happy planning! :sunny:

Big kids won't want to be in the Mickey pool. It is way too shallow for them. There are times where the Goofy pool got a little full. But it wasn't terrible. You should be fine. We didn't have any troubles with wild children.

Donna - if you are booking for 5/27, be sure to join our thread on the cruise meet board!!!! We have quite a group assembled already, and there's room for plenty more!!

My 3 and 4 year olds enjoyed the Mickey Pool. There was a little splashing, but that is to be expected. I recommend buying your little girl a bathing suit that is a solid color and unlike most of the others you see on the racks. My girls had lime green one piece suits; it was easy to keep an eye on them because I knew that the lime green girls were mine.

The worst moment was when a little one slipped and went under, and her frightened mother lept into the pool, fully clothed, including shoes, to pick her up. She looked ridiculous.

Wait - that was me. :rotfl:

The Mickey pool is only 18 inches deep so the big kids don't spend alot of time there at all. The Goofy pool is crazy with kids jumping off the deck level into the pool. The water level is a couple feet lower than that. I personally wouldn't take my 4 yo in that pool so you should be fine in the Mickey pool. You can sit on the edge of the pool & keep a good eye on your child if it is a little busy.

I don't recall a bunch of kids running amok on our cruise either. But i guess each cruise will be different as different kids and parents are there each week. Having said that, the kids pool can get quite crowded at times. If your DD is easily intimitdated, you may want to take her at off times - days in port, earlier in the day or later in the evening. At sea days will be the craziest!

And in the kids club, they are well supervised. Some will be more outgoing than others, but i think there is usually an activity for all types.

We were just there 5/15-19 and my kids loved both pools. The Mickey pool is less crowded in the morning and also during port days. We started off in the mickey pool, my boys are 6 & 9 they loved the slide, then when it started getting crowded we moved over to the Goofy pool.

Go for it!! It was a great experience for us!
