Okay I need help.

So me and my DF have been engaged since February 24, 2007. What i need help with is that i wish i had a different ring. I have talked to DF about the situation but everytime i do he gets all depressed. The reason being that my current ring was his mom's original engagement ring. Don't get me wrong i like the ring because of it being passed down to me, but it not what i wanted. Is it wrong that i feel this way?

You are not being wrong in your feelings. My mom passed away 3 years ago and being an only child I inherated all her jewlery. My mom had had her engagement ring reset about 10 years ago (my parents were married over 50 years). My dad had been keeping her ring in the vault at our local bank as I would not be wearing it and did not want to just keep in in my house. My DH and I have been together for about 15 years. When we got officially engaged I asked my dad about taking my moms diamond and resetting it in a different setting. This way I have her stone but in a new setting.

Would you and your DH consider using the diamond from her ring and putting in your own setting?

Definitely not! I wouldn't want my mom's ring, though it's beautiful. The truth is I know 3 close friends/family who have, since engaged or married, melted down their original engagement ring to make a new setting.

Have you considered just meting it down and building a new setting? Tell him this way it's a great compromise - not only is it the same stone and metal but it's unique to your relationship (make it about him too - or at least fool him into thinking it it!).

Reset the stone and then you have the best of both worlds!

Ya know when I first got my ring I thought DF did a good job but I wasn't thrilled. And everytime I talked to him I made him feel bad. Finally he decided that he would take it back for something else if I didn't like it.

I know it is sometimes hard to talk but you gotta just let them know because it is not fair to you to keep it to yourself.

( I ended up keeping it! I guess as he says I was trying to be difficult )
