hello everyone...

my dh (who is in the ARMY) recently decided that when he gets home from this deployment we will finally get to go on our honeymoon!!! well, i have our room, rental car, tickets, and plane tickets- the only thing i have left to do is decide about our meal vouchers:

we will be there Aug 11-14. We plan on eating breakfast every day at our hotel- so that is taken care of. i am trying to decide how to do the vouchers -

i think i am going to join connections via lillian vernon in the next week or so-

i am crossing my fingers that they offer the dinner vouchers soon, then i will get 1-2 of those and 4 quick and casual vouchers.

does this sound like it will be enough? i plan on having us share both lunches and dinner- i am hoping to budget 150.00 for food for us. we may have a really nice dinner one night-

does anyone have the list of resturants that was on the diner voucher brochure some people recieved recently? was there anyplace on there that was an awesome deal? what are the nicer places to eat with the quick and casual?

i am trying soooooo hard to keep us underneeth 1000.00 for this trip- so far we will be spending almost 800.00! not bad imho!

thanks sooooo much for the help!

I don't know twit about vouchers- that whole discussion confuses me! :) But I do know that I am so grateful to you and your husband's sacrifice for the freedom and safety of our country and the pursuit of liberty for the oppressed. I hope you were able to take advantage of the great rates offered to the active duty military personnel- it was just mentioned yesterday on the resorts board- great deals! 40% off rooms and parkhopper tickets for $99.
I think you can easily stick to $150 a day for the two of you- enjoy this time with your dh and give him a big hug from the Hall family!!

Hi.. I believe the OP meant 150.00 budget for food for the whole stay? Aug 11th - 14th.

Well, like you said - if you are just having a light breakfast at the hotel, juice, coffee muffin's etc.. you can figure 15.00 for breakfast for the two of you.

It might be a good idea to by refillable mugs - this will give your unlimited coffee, soda, hot chocolate etc at the hotel.... this could save you some money if you are planning on spending a lot of time at your hotel.

As for Q&C vouchers... if you can get them for 11.25 each - then you can have a great meal at Beaches and Cream.. but if you are playing 15.00+ for these vouchers then you are probably cheaper to just buy your lunches cash.

At animal Kingdom you can buy a lunch deal for 11.99(I beleive) and this comes with lunch & a drink.. plus a coupon for another drink and ice cream or popcorn later in the day.

There is no two ways about it.. Disney is an expensive place food wise... I think your budget of 150.00USD is a little on the low side - once you are there - so many things will tempt you and you want to enjoy your holiday - meals are a big part of that enjoyment.

I would budget (to be on the safe side) 100.00 per day for food & souveniers... then watch for specials and bargains on the menus.

Good Luck

I have to agree with >>^..^<< DH and I budget $100.00 for food alone each day but we don't eat any meals in the room - I figure $20.00 for breakfast (unless it's a character breakfast), $25.00 for lunch, $50.00 for dinner, and then $15.00 for snacks and drinks.. you drink sooo much while you are there you'll be shocked! That's not even including souveneirs but we are both big souveneir buyers so we like to have plenty of money for that. If you can manage it try a character breakfast or character dinner it's lots of fun (even for adults :D) and the food is usually really good (we suggest Chef Mickey's for dinner or Crystal Palace for breakfast). I don't know anything about the vouchers so I can't really help with those we have always thought it cheaper for us to pay cash as we go. Hope this info is helpful and that you have a great Honeymoon! :bounce:

hi- well...

we do not have to pay for breakfast

3 days of vouchers for lunch and 1 breakfast maybe=approx 60 (we will share)
2 dinners (prob off site)=20 (again, we usually share or eat cheap)
dinner at the castle=65 (sharing)
snacks= 25

total approx= 170 i know that this seems low for some, and we will probably spend more than 170, but money is pretty tight and i am tring to make it stretch!!

Hi!

Good Luck to you and have a wonderful belated honeymoon..

I am dying to know how your budget works out... please come back and give us a trip report! Keep track of those meals and snacks!

I have always thought that I was the most thrifty WDW guest. Usually we stay at FW, but even when we have stayed in hotels, we take a PBJ and individual bags of chips or crackers. I know, they don't want you to bring your own in, but we have never had a problem, even with the security check. We have a black soft cooler, the size of a camcorder case. They check through it and allow us in with our snacks. While we are waiting for the parade, or sooner in a nice shady out of the way spot, we sit and eat. This saves an awful lot.

Okay, slap me with a wet noodle- it's been a tough week! Duh, yes you can do this on a $150 budget! You can eat a wonderful lunch at Cinderella's royal table and it may be cheaper than the dinner and the ambiance is just swell. Since I don't understand the voucher thing- I don't know how much you would have to pay for those but here's how we would do it....

Eat your breakfast that's covered....pack snack bars- granola bars, if you have a costco they have some good chicken salad/crackers/ or cheese/crackers that are great for pick-me-ups-you can easily split a meal at some of the walk-ups- the salads are usually pretty filling- then stick to one great dinner- we always like to eat dinner at 4:00- you get the lunch prices usually and then you could pack great desserts for back at your hotel room- or sandwiches- but if you have vouchers I don't think it matters what time you eat- You can do this but you can also try saving some extra $$ between now and then- we had a $100 difference in our utility bill this month just by enjoying the spring air and not using AC/HT- you can also cook a batch of brownies/cookies for munchies back at your room- have a garage sale and use the money for a nice dinner out.
Have a great trip!!!!

We've never used the vouchers so I can't help you on that. I didn't even know you could get into Connections through Lillian Vernon. I have friends who I'm helping plan their trip so I'll have to do some homework on that. IMHO $150 is a bit low for your food budget. I'm not saying it CAN'T be done, but be prepared if it costs a little bit more than that. After all, you and your dh deserve a nice meal. Before we go to WDW I try to skimp on the grocery budget at home before we go so I don't feel guilty on what we spend at WDW. It's just a psychological thing I guess.
;-) Have a wonderful trip and let us know how it goes when you get back.
