Okay...how bad is construction at DLH?

I'm getting a little nervous reading all the reports mentioning the construction at the DLH. We are going in December and were so excited to stay at the DLH again (stayed for the first time this past Jan.). We got a great discount in the mail (35% off) a couple months ago so we booked it. And even got the preferred room at a really low add on (it's a lot higher now when I check the website). Anyway, all that to say...we loved it last time and are even more excited to stay again (love being "in the magic"). I've requested the Dreams Tower, hopefully we'll get it since it's fully completed...right?
But, is it just a mess there right now? I hope we can still enjoy being there!

We had breakfast at Goofy's kitchen just 6 days ago.

It appeared that only the southern most tower (not sure of the name) was the only one under visible construction.

AT ground level most of the construction that I saw was in the pool/shops area. I'm not sure how that affects the use of the pool, but there were construction walls (about 8 feet high) surrounding much of courtyard between the buildings where the pools and shops are. The Eastern building and northern building showed no signs of construction and appeared to be complete on the outside.

My feeling is that if you get the Dreams or even Magic tower, which you shouldn't if you paid the refurb room upgrade, then you're probably fine. My brother said his experience in the Wonder tower was less than wonderful. Dirty, noisy, inconvenient since there's active construction. The grounds too have a lot of construction going on, but that seemed less annoying to him.

I'm sure since you got the preferred room you will be delighted with the changes. You may not want to look into the interior courtyard though. That's where you will notice the most construction going on. If the landscaping wasn't a huge thing for you, I'd bet it is going to be a fine stay.

Alright, I feel a little better...I am excited about the new room! We honestly don't spend much time at the hotel anyway...who does?:)
Thank you all for the info!

We just returned from the DLH and had a Downtown Disney view in the Dreams Tower. The Wonder Tower also has half its rooms complete and the other half under construction. I would not have liked to be in that tower but I still think there is a chance you could get that tower with a Preferred room.
The pool area is very disappointing. There are construction walls all around the back and the Pirate Slide is not operating (is actually partially boarded up). Also, if you need to use the washroom, you have to leave the pool area now.
We loved our renovated room though and our stay at the DLH, but our opinion would probably be a lot different if we hadn't been upgraded. There are so many subtle Mickey touches in the new rooms. I was noticing something new each day! You won't be disappointed in your room!

Thanks for the info! I'm very excited to be in a new room, and definitely hope we get our request for being in the Dreams Tower.

Thank you, Sally. Very helpful! The towers look great, but, my oh my, is there some construction going on!:)
