Okay boys and girls....

Damn, you said that well!

Is it time for this again already? You knew that I would say something, so sit down and have a chocolate Mom, while I say my piece.

Sadly many of the 'regular', helpful, knowledgeable posters have already been driven off this website, leaving a void of factual information here on the Transportation Board. For quite some time there has been a lack of response to threads, or a lot of misinformation posted. If that is what people want from here, so be it.

DIS Transportation Board v2009 is like a car with the kids screaming in the back seat 'MOM, he touched me! MOM, she's being mean to me!' Many of us chose to get out of the car long ago. I stupidly came back because of two reasons - my PM box was just getting too full from people asking for information, and I was seeing so much misinformation that I thought that maybe it was time to come and help out again.

I disagree with complaining to the webmasters about the moderation here, although I think that they do support your style. It would be a great loss to this community if our esteemed moderator was removed, or if the style here was changed, because some posters are sensitive or are reading things which are not there or are projecting themselves on a thread.

Transportation is the one subject here where only the facts count. Giving out misinformation, or telling people that 'they will be fine' when they won't just isn't helpful. It actually can hurt and cost a lot of money if people have the wrong information. Building false hope can create frustration as people start to expect things which just won't happen.

I do miss the regulars here, and that includes the many 'ordinary people' like Duds, and Deb, and Bumber and so many others who many not fly every week but who contributed facts and information from the viewpoint of a regular notsofrequently flying parent. But I for one refuse to spend my time giving out information in a non-emotional manner only to be criticised over and over by posters who don't like the answers, and blame the messenger. Even when we tried to inject humour over here we were accused of being cliquish or overly protective of one another.

For those of you who don't like the answers, or the delivery, maybe you need to step back a moment and consider your posts, and if they have been helpful to others. If they are only there to criticise, or to provide false information, or to build false hope, then they are not contributing in a positive fashion either.

This was once a vibrant, helpful, informative community and the only place I really enjoyed on this larger website, and it is really sad to see how some posters have completely driven this forum into a different direction.

I'm sorry that you, goofy4tink, have had to deal with these challenges on a daily basis. I'm quite certain that you didn't join and participate here with the intent of raising more children or moderating more playtime battles. I respect you personally and as a moderator, and it saddens me to know how difficult this 'job' must be for you.

Not all the regulars have disappeared. Many of the facts I have stated on the boards have now proven to be true. Luggage transfer was terribly exaggerated by posters and needed to be corrected. I am sure a lot of posters considered me rude and biased, but I was in a position, with the airport officials, to find out the hard facts and certainly did that.

That aspect of DME has been corrected by statements made on the luggage transfer and the fact that at times you don't have to check in, the number of bags you checked into luggage transfer, at the desks to get on the busses. It was never a requirement and now the new and much more enhanced ground transportation to the WDW resorts makes life much easier for you who choose the DME and for those who do not like the DME and prefer the car rental or car service procedures.

DME is a great help to Orlando International in getting passengers to WDW. Disney just happen to beat the local folks who were set on introducing commuter rail to the airport and WDW.

I'm getting way too many complaints about nastiness here. So...here's the deal. If you choose to post something, and you don't care for the answers, or the way they are stated..please bring your complaints to me. I will try to give everyone the same treatment. No, the 'regulars' will not get preferential treatment. Of course, there are so few 'regulars' here now that it won't make much difference. Those cries of nastiness and rudeness have driven them off.

If someone has an issue with the moderating on this board, please contact a webmaster. I refuse to censure people. I rely on you all to play nicely and politely. But....I don't think that just because someone gives someone else an answer they weren't looking for, and one that doesn't suit what they want, is nasty or rude. Now...if it is worded in a rude or nasty manner, okay, all bets are off.

So...carry on. Play nicely. Consider yourselves sprinkled with pixie-dust...pixiedust:

I, for one have really appreciated all the help from both you and the "regulars" and sincerely thank you all. I would hate for anymore people to choose not to post and to lose more people from this board.

Some of the regulars on this board have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help me.

Last year Bavaria helped me in more ways than one with my trip planning. She told me to PM her with all the questions I had about our trip to Rome, which I did and her help with areas to book a hotel was invaluable. She also gave us a list of "not to miss" sights. I truly hope that Bavaria never chooses to leave this board and once again I wish to thank her.

What some posters consider "rude and nasty" posts are nothing more than factual accounts of other peoples travel experiences.

After getting some heat last year I have not posted as much but do continue to lurk.

Sincerely, One grateful traveler.

And what I think is also happening is that some people come over, see the tone may be different than what they are used to and immediately cry to mommy. If people truly stick around a while and read all of the excellent info that is posted, they will realize that all the regulars are very much here to help.

I quite agree.:thumbsup2

I don't mind the venters -- IF they are willing to learn from the experience and be willing to accept that the cards may just have gone against them that time. For many of them, this is the only place they know of to go to talk about such experiences, and I'm willing to do a little handholding -- but only a little. If you won't learn, I'm not going to keep beating a dead horse.

Sometimes I do get frustrated when I answer the same question for the tenth time in a month, but I'm a professional searcher, and I understand that many people who are not do not know how to get the best out of the board's somewhat persnickety search function. I do sometimes post links to on-point threads, rather than type out the same long and detailed answer all over again.

I try to treat answering these questions in much the same way that I do those that I answer in my work, but here I *do* get to express an opinion, which is kind of nice. However, I am very careful to try to couch opinions in the most neutral of terms, so as to try to inform without offense. Sometimes I fail at that, but I do try.

Oddly enough I was just discussing offline with someone how there is a poster on another board venting about something they vented about several months ago (and they didn't like the answers back then either) Same poster, same scenario, same vendor, same answers, same reaction.

There is a classic DISthread which left a very bad taste in my mouth, and I didn't read here for several months. The first time I came back and read, the very same (different from above noted) poster was having another vent on the same topic, and was receiving similar answers, and was reacting in the same fashion.

I understand the need to vent, but I don't have much patience anymore for people who refuse to listen or to learn, and then turn around and tear other people down for providing information which may actually help them in future. It is very sad that some people haven't learned from the past and from what we posted here, so it does leave me in the 'why bother' category at least for now. Someone who doesn't want to learn and who lashes out in that fashion unfortunately is showing their ignorance.

I have always been happy to help other people but tend to do it only offline these days.

All of my trips have been greatly enhanced and/or I have avoided many a travel disaster because of all the information I have learned on this board. I don't think I have thanked you all. Thank you ( and my family thanks you). Please don't go...

Me, too!

I haven't been around much lately so now that I'm seeing this thread, I know I must have missed a dust up or two. I'd rather hear correct answers, pixie dust or not.
