I've typed out this thread at least 1/2 a dozen times. I've always deleted it because I'm worried about : (a) being flamed (b) offending someone (c) starting a disagreement or (d) all of the above.

With much hesitation... I think I've worked up enough moxie to ask this question.

We are a family who chooses not to celebrate Halloween. We celebrate all other holidays (BIG fans of Groundhog Day :lmao: )

We will be at WDW in mid-September. I've realized that there will be a MNSSHP during the week that we are there. We've opted not to attend.

My concern is about the theming around the park in preparation for the party. I'm assuming there will be a lot of halloween decorations??? How much does the actual party spill over into the daily events?

Now... just to be clear.... while we don't actually participate in halloween.... we still go to Target and Walmart.... my kids know about the holiday.

I just don't want to be put into a situation that makes me uncomfortable. Like a CM offering my kids candy.... but only if they say "Trick or Treat" first. This has happened to us on occassion here at home.
Know what I mean?

Please be nice. I'm trying to be as tactful as possible. I apologize if I've offended anyone.

I'm big fan of groundhog day too! its my birthday! :rotfl2:

okay sorry to take this thread OT...now back to your regularly scheduled mnsshp thread :happytv:

The park will be decorated (MK)...but I really don't think anything will be forced on you. Even if you would go to MNSSHP you can opt not to trick or treat. I think you'll be fine really, and if someone does something just politely say, "I'm sorry, we don't celebrate halloween."

Don't fret. Most people here are very very kind. Have a fantastic trip!:goodvibes

I've been to MNSSHP twice. The park has some decorations but there really wasn't much Halloween theming during the regular hours. The party is purely optional.... if you decided to go to the party.. which it does not sound like you are really interested in... you could easily just go on all the rides and skip the character meet and greets and parades. The park is pretty empty you could probably do almost everything if you didn't go to the fireworks and parade.. just a thought. I went once in Septemer, once in october and there was not even a mention of halloween during the regular hours. It was a really nice time to go the crowds were very light.

We don't celebrate Halloween either, so I found your questions very interesting!

I have a question too. During this time, are the characters dressed in Halloween type attire during the regular day, or are they in their normal outfits?

I would have to say that the decorations during the regular park hours are almost purely the "fall" variety. You will see some jack o lanterns shaped like mickey's head, but that is about it. You can notice a definite difference when you arrive for the MNSSHP!

No. We went back to the MK on a day after the MNSSHP and none of the charaters were in costume.

Yes to this. More fall/harvest style stuff. There are a few smiling jack o lanterns here and there.

:woohoo: My DD's and I LOVE Groundhog Day! Have you gotten the Groundhog from Build A Bear? I admire your choice about Halloween! Have fun at WDW!

During the day the park is slightly decorated with pumpkins and such. No characters are in special costumes. No candy is given out. I don't even think you can buy Disney Halloween merchandise unless is it during the party.

We may go this year just because the rides were empty. DD13 doesn't trick or treat anymore and dd4 can go when we are at home. We usually do a trunk or treat at church anyway.

other than decorations, nothing halloween related starts until the party. you may see people, ie, guests, dressed up later in the day as those attending the party can get in at 3 or 4 pm, I forget which. The trick or treating doesn't start however, until 7 pm on the dot.

Can I ask why? I promise I'm not judging or flaming, just honestly curious.

You want to know why I we are such big fans of Groundhog day?!?! :rotfl:
What's not to like about early February....and a cuddly little animal who signals spring???? Okay... I'm kidding.

Seriously now. I know the origins of Halloween. It is impossible for me to ignore the root of this holiday. It is my opinion that God is not pleased with the origins of halloween. It is my conviction to not celebrate it.

There are many things in everyday life that I believe do not glorify God.... so I don't participate in them. That's MY conviction. I realize everyone has a different relationship with God and everyone has a different conviction.

My boys aren't HUGE fans of Build a Bear. They each have one stuffed bear that they HAD to have.... and now they just sit on a shelf.

Thanks for the compliment. I appreciate it.

Thank you - I hope I didn't offend by asking - it wasn't my intention. I really was just curious.:goodvibes

I agree with everyone else - - the fall/harvest theme is out at the entrances to MK. Wheat sheaves, jack-o-lanterns, etc. No one is in costume, never saw one reference to Halloween inside the park that I can remember.

We did attend MNSSHP so DD4 could dress up in her Cinderella costume, but more importantly, so we could ride the rides with NO LINES! If that's important to you, and your kids know about Halloween (thanks to the media and big displays in all the stores) you can easily go to the party and ignore the long lines for candy and help yourselves to the short lines for the ride. I've never seen them shorter in my life. Just a thought! You will see others in costume though, and the parade that night is fully costumed.

Well, actually, I am the one who got the groundhog!:rotfl2: and it travels from room to room depending on her finds it to sleep with!

Here is my groundhog!

I think you will be fine, if you are not attending MNSSHP you wont run into any trick or treating. There will be the jackolanterns, fall decor up but not anyworse than you would see at fall festivals, etc.

People with costumes can enter MK after 4pm, if you want to avoid that just avoid MK on party days.

You will be fine and have a great trip, September is a great time to go!
