OK, why has no one ever told me bichons are bird dogs?

I just had to dispose of the FOURTH bird my "sweet" little dog has caught in our yard this spring. FOUR. This is the first time I was actually home and able to take care of it right away. The other times she has had to be confined in the house or leashed because Mom is bird phobic. Won't go near them. Not quite sure how we actually got to go to the aviary when I was a kid. Once Mom refused to leave a mall because a sparrow had gotten into the mall and was in the corridor we were headed down to leave. Mind you the bird was flying up by the ceiling, 20 feet up, but she refused to walk down that hallway. So its up to me to get rid of the bodies. Oh Joy. And no rum in the house. I need a Long Island Ice Tea. None of that either. I just hope the birds learn to avoid our yard. Of course I think she has taken care of all of the dumb young ones.

Sounds like your dog thinks it's doing your mother a favor.

It is no favor, believe me. If I'm not home to deal with the dead robin (the last 3 have been robins, very young ones just starting to fly) Molly is under house arrest until I get home.

Kim,

Our bichon is 5 yrs. old and has never as much bothered with a bird. I don't even think she even looks at them when they're in the yard. She is terrorizing a chipmunk this summer, but she's never brought us a present.

Trash is her obsession. I do have to keep the trash can in the pantry because she'll tear into it in a second. She can LEAP and steal food off of the kitchen island...last weekend 6 pieces of pizza disappeared! SIX.

Bichon's have the cutest faces, so it's really hard to stay mad at them!

Molly doesn't like any other animal, except my sister's dog, in HER yard. She charges after anything. The birds she had gotten are rather young, so I think they came from a nearby nest. Oh well. Evolution at work.

We have two bichons in the family and they are not bird dogs either. They go crazy after the squirrels and chipmunks, but then so does our lhasa and pug. None has brought home any gifts either.

Our bichons are garbage hounds too. They even learned how to operate the can where you have to step down to open it. Smart little things, but yes, so hard to stay mad with those sweet little faces. ;)

We also have 2 bichons and while they love to chase anything in the yard... I don't know what they would do if they ever caught it.

Yes, trash in our house is always hidden in some cabinet.

Cookie is our bichon. She is ten years old. She is not a bird or squirrel chaser. But heaven help "peter cottontail" if he hops through our yard. She is off like a maniac. So far, Peter has out run her! :lmao:

Maybe the birds have been talking trash and doggie finally had enough.

I always figured my basset hound (he is mixed with springer spaniel, which explains a lot) would have no idea what to do if he ever caught something. but he knows to bring it right back to dad. he got loose out by the lake, and sure enough he takes off running, then about 400 yards away from me, he leaps into the reeds near the water like a cartoon and pops back up a min. later with a duck in his mouth.

And my lab has a new habit of bringing me rabbits from the back yard. I have lost count.

Mine is a year and hasn't bother them. They were bred as lap dogs. I'm guessing it's a really fun game. My cockerspaniel when she was 6 months cought a bird but brought it to my room and tore it apart it was really messy. The odd thing is she's the nicest dog:love: :yay: She has gotten into baby bunnies a few times but she brough then to me live with out any harm what so ever.
