I have a Canon XT and am debating which lens to take. I have the kit lens, 18-55, I also have a 28-80. My zoom lens is 75-300. I am thinking the 28-80 is the best bet, I can lose the 10 mm at the low end. Any opinions?

Thanks,
Kim

Unless the 28-80 is a fixed aperture lens like a 2.8, I think I would take the 18-55. I don't think 20mm in between the long end of this lens and the short end of your other lens is going to make much difference...but 10mm on the wider end might if you find yourself in close quarters trying to get a picture or for things like the parade where you might want a little wider shot.

Edited: Are you going to WDW or on a cruise?? I see a cruise in your signature but didn't know if this is the trip you were referring to. If it is, the parade point will be moot.

I'm in the same boat (well ship) ;)

I have 5 lenses, the biggest issue is if I should bring my 70-200/2.8 or leave it behind. I have a 55-250/4.5-5.6 w/ IS that I just got. Trying to decide it I want to lug the 70-200 around or if the 55-200 will do the job if I'm outside most of the time. I'll bring the 18-55 since its small and the 50 prime.

I took my Nikon 70-200 with me on our cruise last year and really enjoyed it for the shows particularly.

It always attracts attention.

No doubt, even if I don't know what I'm doing people assume I do with that thing attached to my camera!!

Gee, dpuck what ever do you mean? :lmao: I only have 3 lenses at this point. I was thinking about buying the inexpensive 50mm Canon makes. But at this point, I don't think I would get it before the cruise. I think I'll bring the 18-55 mm and my zoom.

Thanks everyone.

See you next week Don. Can you believe it is almost here?

If I bring my 70-200/2.8 you must use it! Its amazing!! I was taking awesome photos of my daughter in a dark auditorium with no flash this weekend. I was able to get shutter speeds in the 150 range.

WOW, can't believe its only a week! 1+ year of planning finally here.

Which parks are you planning on going too?

I take every lens I have, 24mm/2.8, 50mm/1.4, 105mm/2.8, 180mm/2.8 and a 35-70/2.8 to WDW. The only park were I take ALL the lenses is AK and that is on a day I know I will be taking photos of animals.

Depending on the time of day we go to the park I take the 24mm, 50mm, or the 35-70mm. I have a holster camera bag by SunDog that just holds the camera and one lens. Sometimes I wish I had another lens besides the one I picked but I can usually make do with what I have on the camera.

I have only used the 180mm at AK and EPCOT. The smaller ranges are used far more often.

Zooms are nice but heavy, expensive, and usually don't focus as close as a prime which is why I only have one zoom. The 35-70 is a good lens but heavy. The zoom feature does come in handy but lordy that thing is heavy compared to the 24mm or 50mm. :rolleyes1:scared1:;)

I bought the 50mm/1.4 last spring for low light. Glad I spent the money. But even it is not fast enough for the low light one can find at WDW.

I would take every lens you have and then guess what you need at a given park and take what is easy to carry but allows you to take the photos you want.

Later,
Dan

Whichever lens(es) are fastest! If you have a 2.8 I'd recommend taking it. I think 28-80 sounds like a solid choice; gives you a decent amount of range without being too overbearing.
