OK what's up w/ all the trick or treaters

I saw fewer kids in the elaborate store bought costumes. Believe it or not, I had no Disney princesses this year! What I did see was kids playing dress up in parent's old clothes, kids wearing their hair in rollers with a bath robe (both boys and girls), and kids who had used face paints and makeup in creative ways. This year, I actually recognized my neighbors since they weren't hidden under heavy masks. While the elaborate costumes may have been absent, the level of fun the kids was having was just as high as previous years.

well, if you saw my DD she would have looked like she didn't have a costume on, but it was tooooo cold for her to wear it as planned. She was going as a cave girl.

Very cute dress for that we found. but it was 38 degrees by us, so she had to wear pants. She tried going with her coat open, but it got too cold so she zipped up. Some years it is warm, some years very cold, so it is a hit or miss.

Shoot, I saw on a website costumes on a budget : go to the dollar store and get some smarties candies tape them to some pants, you can be a smarty pants. Or take a big piece of posterboard, make a picture of a quarter put it on the back of your shirt-you are a quarterback.

You can't blame the economy for every little thing. If the parents can get a carton of cigarettes, beer or go out to eat every day, surely they can come up with thrifty things for their kids to wear. Even if things are tight, using your creativity and imagination, you can make a costume.

DD11 went as a hippie: make up kit 3.00 to make a flower on her face, hippie glasses-3.00 and then she had made a beaded headband from beads she had before. Pillowcase-free.

I think many kids just don't want to dress up and then expect free candy, another form of entitlement.

The candy aint cheap! No costume, no trick or treat just a walmart bag and a "hey, I want the snickers not the smartees"

Oh, thanks for the reminder, I have a pack of smarties in my pocket from the other night! LOL!

Usually I'm out w/ DS9 and DH is home passing out candy. This is my first year home but I just had surgery and can't do the walking. It's been 9 years since I've passed out candy...:scared1:

This year we actually gave out more candy than usual, you just don't know what is happening in each child's house financially.

Wow...now that I think about it, I didn't have any Disney princesses either. I always notice the Disney costumes. I had a Minnie Mouse and a couple Cars characters and the wilderness boy from UP! but no Princesses. Huh.

Out of about 100 kids, maybe 2 I saw didn't have a costume. Everyone was very nice, almost all said thank you. I haven't passed out candy in years (I usually work on Halloween night) and it was alot of fun. I did notice the homemade costumes, seems like there was alot of them, but to me, those are more fun anyway. One girl, about 9 was too cute, she was a pumpkin. She dyed her hair green, curled it into tendrils, her face and neck were brown and she had on a big orange sweatshirt that almost went to her knees with a black felt face stitched on it. Really cute.
