OK to bring Drones to UK/France form US?

My son is going with a college class to UK and France in early January. They will fly to London, then take the channel train to France.

He is wanting to carry his Phantom DJi drone with him, and I wanted to see if anyone had done that and if you encountered any problems. He will carry it with him and not as checked luggage. Also, did you have any restrictions as to the usage? I realize some sites (Buckingham Palace, Eifel Tower, etc. may not allow it, but generally speaking did you have problems? Are permits needed?

Shouldn't have any issues transporting it. I'd say in the UK, unless you are in large open empty spaces, you will attract attention from the law. I doubt you'd getaway with using it anywhere in central London.

With the City airport, there are often planes ascending and descending along the Thames flight path.
