Thankfully I was doing laundry at AKL when this happened a couple of weeks ago but my DH let the plug out of the tub after my DS finished his bath and it took a long time to drain and then at the end he said the water started to bubble up and a bunch of hair (short dark ones, eeewww!) came back up into the tub. I was really grossed out when I saw it (but glad I didn't have to see it happen!). This was our first night there so I know the hair wasn't ours! I think I would have rather seen a bug! I had to wait about 45 minutes for someone to come up (he was very busy) but he was really nice and apologetic and unclogged the drain for us. Other than that we had a great stay!

When millions of people stay in hotels and resorts there is a lot left behind, that would be best not thought of.

If you put everything under a microscope in public facilities you will never leave your house.

It is just the nature of travel.

Gross...gross....gross...for that I would have asked for something!

At a Marriott last year, we got to our room and someone had taken a shower in the bathroom and left the mess (employee maybe). They gave us dinner and a discount....had to make them, though!

One of the channels (A&E or TLC maybe) once showed a forensic scientist going into *cleaned* hotel rooms and researching just as if it was crime scene.
When seeing what he found in your average Holiday Inn-type room, you NEVER wanted to stay in any motel again.
It was awful! :p

I know people who bring disinfectant wipes with them to wipe down any surfaces they might use in the room. There are also nice high thread count bed socks and pillow covers (I know Margaret Cho uses one), so you don't have to touch the sheets if you so desire.

IMHO, it's useless to try and prevent every little germ from invading your life (think about all those people you stand in line next to all day with all their sneezing, coughing, etc.), so it's best to just get on with enjoying the WDW experience and try to forget about what whoever was in your room last week or month may have been doing in your bed.

Indigo
who is a thread count snob and may try one of those high thread count babies anyway... oooh soft.

I'm hardly a germaphobe (you should see my house sometimes!). I'm well aware of what kind of "goodies" can be found in public places and it would never prevent me from going out and enjoying myself (but I still hold the right to be grossed out from seeing a bunch of hair regurgitated into my tub!). I politely called the front desk and asked them very nicely if they could send someone up to fix it. I never complained and it certainly didn't spoil my vacation at all. I'm not one that lets little things bother me - life's too short (I may still get grossed out but can always laugh about it later!). Would I stay at AKL again? Absolutely, in a heartbeat! I never asked for anything in return because they fixed the problem. The only time in my life I've ever asked to be moved to another room was at Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello in Quebec when we saw a bat flying around our room at 1 am! They came with nets to try and catch it (obviously not that uncommon an occurrence) but it crawled into a crack in the exposed wood beam ceiling. I really didn't feel all that comfortable in there anymore not knowing where it was so they moved us to another room. We still had a great time.

Having been in the hotel business for years I have seen it all. Now DH and I will not even consider staying in a budget motel. The first thing I do when I enter my hotel room is pull up the sheets and look at the mattress cover to see how clean it is. Then I pull up the mattress cover to see how clean the mattress is. This really says a lot about how the hotel handles cleanliness in ALL departments from housekeeping to their restaurant areas.

Kim:)

I'll mention that this past Christmas when we were traveling I was in the bathroom and my 5 yr old was playing with trucks on the floor in there and rolled one under the sink area. He crawled under to get it and someone had tucked the latest issue of Hustler or Playboy or some magazine under there. He pulled it out and showed it to me and said "mom, what is this???" ACK!!!!

:smooth:
