Hi,

I'm new here and heading down with my DH and twin ds and dd in September. :sunny:

Here goes...Anyone worried about the Bird Flu? I have to admit, I try not to worry about these things, but the media has really got me concerned.

thanks,

Hi there - another twin mommy here! We have plans right now to go in October, and I have to say, I am not concerned about the bird flu at this time. I've spoken with my doctor about it, and he feels (and I agree), that the media is really hyping it up.

I could change my opinion between now and then, but no, I'm not really concerned.

I agree, my dh says the same thing. Media hype...what pain. :)

It's not stopping us from going so I guess I'm not too concerned about it. Our twins are going to be 4 in July. We are so excited!!

I am not too concerned... we are going in Sept. as well... I don't think flu season really starts until early Nov. While I do believe that there has been a lot of hype regarding the bird flu I do believe that there will eventually be a pandemic... whether it be this flu or another. I don't believe it will be as bad as the movies are making it out to be I do believe it is something to be prepared for. ie: I plan to stock up on fever reducers and other "flu meds"... mostly because I worry that if it does happen people are going to overreact and go crazy at the stores... I would rather just have supplies on hand so if something were to happen I wouldn't have to fight with the masses to get what I need to take care of my family. My local newschannel put out a list of good supplies to keep on hand. I also know that a lot of our local businesses are already setting up "work at home" plans so that employees would not have to come to work... hmmm o.k. maybe I am a little scared  but no bird flu will keeep me from Disney!!! :cool1:

I'm not afraid in terms of our vacation plans. But, I do think a pandemic of some sort is "due" and I have set aside three weeks worth of supplies and flu meds/masks/gloves etc just in case. It's a good thing to have anyway, in case of any natural disaster. If nothing ever happens...it's $50 wasted. If something does...it will be priceless.

OMG it is SOOOOO hyped. They have been hyping it for what a year now? It is STILL several mutations away from being person to person transferable.
Then again, if you are from where it has started & live in close proximity to infected birds, then yes, you have a valid concern.

"There is no evidence it will be the next pandemic," Dr. Julie Gerberding,
head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, said of
avian flu. There is "no evidence it is evolving in a direction that is
becoming more transmissible to people."

Dont worry!!!:)

. . . I try not to worry about these things, but the media has really got me concerned.

You answered your own question. Stay away from the media and you will be a lot better off. They create problems where none exist.

Can you believe that show ABC is doing about it??? Someone actually had to approve that garbage. Ugh!

I didn't watch the movie for that reason...ridiculous.

Does anyone remember the movie "The Day After?" I was little at the time, but I can recall my parents and teachers discussing how troubling it was and how they couldn't believe the networks would allow such a movie on tv. Imagine that? I have to put the parental controls on just about every channel, so my children don't accidentally watch a half naked woman selling perfume! sad...

thanks for everyone's responses. :)

Wow. If you don't remember "The Day After" (terrible. . .), you really don't remember 'Amerika'. How lame was that?! Pure trash.
