I was wondering what everyone does about needed items now that Magical Express takes you right to the resorts. I will be traveling with my DH, DD4 and my DD6 months. What about diapers and wipes? Do you rent cars for a day so you can shop? Get Deliveries? Or send a package down to the resort before you go? I just want to try and think about it now so I am not running around at the last minute. (Which we all know I will be doing anyway :goodvibes )
Thank you for your good advice in advance!!

Debbie

Why don't you just pack everything you need? I would put at least one days worth of diapers, food, clothes for the baby in a carry-on. Disney will give you a crib so all you need are a carseat, diapers, stroller... I think that's all I brought. The diapers and baby food fit into the suitcase.

Diapers, formula and milk are available on Disney property but you will pay a lot!

Try wegoshop.com. You give them a list of items (brand names ect.) and they will deliver them to your resort. It's super easy and very reasonable.

We are bringing everything down with us. My son will have his own suitcase and maybe two. I figure we will use the diaper/food/wipes space for our souviners for when we return.

I plan on bring a days worth of supplies in our carry on. If we choose to head to the park before we can check-in, we are going to check some bags in and go exploring.

You could always send down a package before you get there, and just pack some extra in your carry on. Im going to send down a package with diapers, swim diapers and finger food(cheerios and things) for the baby, and snacks for my older two.

When we went with our DD at 6 months, we shipped down a box with her diapers, wipes, food and cereal. It arrived at the hotel a couple of days before we checked in. I will do this again when we go in August with a 15 month old. It was easier IMO to do this than take it with us. Good luck :wave2:

When we took our infant daughter we brought down one piece of luggage dedicated to her. It included all of her needs. For the trip home it became our souvenir storage. We had used up just about all the diapers, wipes, etc. and then we filled it with everything we purchased during our stay. It worked well for us.

Thank you for your input everyone. I just can not wait to get there!!

Hi there
I just wanted to say we took our dd to WDW last year ahen she was almost 9 mos, and we never rented a car nor did we have grocerys shipped.
I just packed a seperate bag for her with diapers, wipes, food, formula and bottles. Honestly this stuff packs down so well I took TO much!
A couple of tips:
I see you are taking Magical express. I am not sure if this is your first time using this but if so please remember that your luggage may take awhile to get to your room so make sure you have extra of dc's things with you on your carry-on.
Also if you formula feed don't forget to take a bottle brush and dishsoap for bottles.
Make sure to make good use of the baby care centers in the parks. They're fabulous!

After having more than one unexpected detour/delay and loss of luggage when flying cross country, I was more cautious than most when flying with my kids when they were little.
I always packed an entire day's changes in clothes, blankies, diapers and a whole can of formula with two good bottles of water. (And at least two extra nuk's!) As they got older, I added in a small soft sided cooler with munchies and snacks. I still make sure that they have their bathing suits packed in their carry ons now. That way, if nothing else, they can hang out at the pool!
When they were little, I frequently traveled on my own with the boys. When I traveled with my DH, we would actually bring a duffle bag with the rice cereal and baby food jars. Now days, they have the plastic ones which will make traveling a whole lot easier! When I traveled to my parents, they purchased much of it before we got there. When I traveled other places, I ordered online at Albertsons or something similar, so I'd have the baby food stuff that we didn't bring on with us.
A couple of "gadgets" that I Loved when traveling with infants, and in particular that we liked at WDW. First, I purchased one of those car seat cover/carriers. LOVE it. More than 11 years later, we're still using ours, though it's definitely taken a beating! The shoulder strap enables us to easily carry the car seat around. We always gate check (see note above about being re-routed more than once!). You can also toss in jackets, blankets, etc. into the extra space within the carrier. If you're getting your baby a seat, then you have all the stuff with you without having to find other space for it. It's not counted as a carry on even if you do bring it on.
Another thing we got, specifically for our first WDW trip with our oldest son was the completely collapsable/take apart portable chair. I think of it as a highchair kind of thing. This was a godsend for us when we were trying to feed him breakfast or afternoon snack, it confined him to a limited space. There was more than one time that we put him in the seat with books and toys (he liked to sit up) while we got ready.

What's available at the baby care centers? Is that where nursing mothers can go?

Yepper! I can only speak for the one at Epcot (though I'm sure they are mostly the same), but it was WONDERFUL! There was a room for mom's who were nursing...it had rocking chairs and dim lights, etc. Actually, there were quite a few mom's there when DD and I went in.

There were places to change diapers, and even high chairs so that you could feed the older ones.

They also sold many baby related things...sunscreen, diapers, formula, bottles, binkies, baby food, etc.

Have a great time!

The baby care centers are great! I'm all for nursing in public, but DD was usually WAY too interested in checking everything out instead of nursing. The ac was nice too!

The centers at MK and Epcot have shared nursing rooms. They are large, dimly lit rooms with several rocking chairs for moms. At AK, there are a couple of private nursing rooms complete with a door and changing table. The AK nursing rooms were, IMHO, the best.

After the other parks, the MGM nursing rooms were a major disappointment. The rooms were "private", but only seperated from the rest of the very small baby care center by a curtain. We had some very loud visits at the MGM baby care center (think screaming kids who don't want to eat fighting with their parents on the other side of the curtain). Unlike the other baby care centers, there is no attendant at MGM so I was almost barged in on in my little nursing room at MGM more than once.

The other thing that I really used the BCC's for was diaper changes. They have big pieces of paper (like the exam table at the doctor's office) that are removed after each change. It wasn't always convenient, but if we were walking by, we'd usually stop in for a change.

Is there just one baby care center per park? While they do sound very nice, they don't sound real convenient. If you are across the park and your little one messes his diaper, sometimes the haul across the park would be too long to wait!

I seem to recall the grassy areas in MK (at least around the castle) always being gated off. Are there grassy areas you could just lay your little one down and change them?

Yes, only one per park. However, all of the bathrooms (both men and womens) have baby changing tables. When we needed a quick change I'd just go in the nearest bathroom. I only used the baby care center to nurse and that wasn't even every time. I did nurse on the TTC once and discreetly on quiet benches and similar areas of the various parks.

Thanks for the info about the baby centers. I had forgotten about them. I am sure they will come in handy while nursing. (keep my DD on task instead of trying to see what everyone else is doing)

I knew I was asking the right people for advice!!

My tips on WDW with kids

There are some really great rides for nusing... think Tomorrow Land Transit, think (most) of the great Movie Ride, think spaceship earth. Nursing on rides is more discrete than nusring just on a bench and more fun for me than nusing in the baby station

Have a baby carrier... personally I love ergo baby carriers, great for kids up to 40lbs. works front and back dads dont feel too girly wearing them distributes weight well they have a sleeping hood to keep babies head from lulling around while they nap. This also keeps your baby where you can feel them knowing they wont leave the stroller and baby gets to see the park rather than just the feet of the other guests. Gosh I cannot say enough great things about the ergo baby carrier!

Take a midday break, leave the park go back to your hotel, if not ready for a nap take a swim in the pool that aways wears my boys out take a nap or watch a movie then come back after everyone is well rested

Family bathrooms... I am working hard to tell this secret because it is MINE ALL MINE!!! they have these at all the parks except MK. These are bathrooms designed for families and or bathroom assistance needed indivudials. They are all handicap accessable and feature 1 toilet 1 sink and 1 changing table in a good sized room. This means my toddler doesnt have to sit on my lap while I go. The downsize is you gotta be ok with your SO going in front of you. To be crass we ask if anyone plans to go number 2 and they get to go last. My DH changes the baby while I go we can take the stroller in the room with us so toddler has a place to sit while he waits his turn then we use the stroller to give him a boost so he can go then we use the strollers edge again as a step stool (with mommy support) to wash his hands then daddy hands off baby to me and does his business while I secure the kids back in their carriers and/or strollers clean up diapers and wash hands. Everyone is contained and mom and dad can go into the room together!

The best part about my secret bathrooms is they are used by few guests so they are typically spotless so when my toddler sits on the floor after I said not to 4 times in a row I know he wont be sitting in a puddle of someone else's accident

Have a good time, take it easy and when you are on your way back to your hotel at midnight and your 1 year old is smiling happily and playing because you took it easy and took a break take a photo. So you can remember that not every child is exhausted and grumpy at the end of the day!
