We are just waiting for ours to fall over. We put up our artificial tree and it is really leaning. My 10 year old keeps pushing it over ... which is a mixture of disaster. Hope it stays up the second time!
Our previous cat used to climb the Christmas trees and knock them over, so I had to put in a hook above the tree and anchor it from above. Thank goodness our current cat doesn't climb the Christmas trees. We lost hundreds of ornaments to that darned cat over the years.
D'oh! when I was growing up we had cats and a Saint Bernard. He could clear 3 feet of tree with one wag of the tail. My dad used to wire the tree to the wall with 2 or three heavy duty wires. That tree could have survived a Cat 5 hurrcane.
My youngest managed to pull the tree over when he was about 4. I should have known better than to hang pick-up truck ornaments on the tree & turn my back. He's 15 now & still gets excited over his Hallmark truck ornament collection.
We put ours up 2 days ago and the cats (we have 9) didn't touch it except for a nibble or two on the brances. It survived the day while we were at work, so we decorated it last night. Came home today and only 1 ornament on the floor. Pretty good considering....
When I was a kid we had an artificial tree you had to put together like an erector set. Seriously. Came with a stem and about 30 branches, all color coded at the tip so you knew which hole to stick the branch in.
That tree latest about 15 years and fell over every year. The cats pulled it down, the dog knocked it over with his tail, we kids had a go. Eventually if you just looked at it the darn thing fell over.
