Ok so is the Champion brand of clothing actually considered "stylish" now a days?

Back when I was a kid if you wore Champion brand clothes you were looked at as "poor" so you avoided it. Having no branding on your clothes was better than having people see that you were wearing Champion.

A few years ago I stumbled upon some really good sweatpants that were Champion and I wear them to walk in and the logo is barely visible with most tops I wear.
Its turning colder and prior to wearing an actual coat I was gonna buy some sweatshirts.
I see the same type of sweatpants I have come in sweatshirts and are in pretty colors but the Champion name is splashed across the front.
I'm just so used to being looked down on if you see it but I've also heard its apparently become this stylish name brand that everyone wants.
Is it stylish these days or should I just find something plain?

Ask yourself this instead... who are you trying to impress? I get it, growing up, one always wanted to "look cool" and not wear (or do) anything that might get you "picked on" by your peers. That generally went out the window around college.

Will there be people who judge you by what you wear? I'm sure. But do you really need to impress them? What difference would it make? Maybe if you're a big time lawyer or money person, they want to see you in suits by "big name" designers, but workout clothes? Who cares?

When I was in college a lot of University logo'd clothing was champion branded among other brands like Adidas. I don't think people cared what so ever about it especially when thousands of people are buying and wearing them on campus.

The OP is really talking about status symbols not about stylish or not especially given their comments and subsequent discomfort at being seeing in something with a specific logo of the company who made the clothing. Stylish is about well the style or color, etc, status symbol is about the brand itself and what it signifies to others. That said I've not met nor heard an adult (so someone past teen age) who would be embarrassed about being seen in the Champion brand. That's middle and high school drama stuff and while some may not outgrow that it's not an issue for that in those I know.

Buy something you like and not worry about what strangers on the street are thinking about you.

I'm surprised to hear Champion is a big deal too. I grew up near an outlet store (we called it the reject store) in the 70's so a big part of my wardrobe was Champion rejects. Every kid in town could say the same thing. It was just where you went for t shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, etc.

I remember once we were on a vacation and my sister had a jacket with a random team name that she literally didn't even know how to pronounce. Someone asked her about it and was really surprised we had no knowledge of the team, what sport they played etc. Both of us were confused "It's a shirt. Why would we know what the words on it have to do with?" We were really surprised by it. It was normal in our town to have shirts with random weird sometimes misspelled words on them. It definitely made us think twice about wearing them when we left for college!

I hear ya OP - Champion was looked down upon back when I was younger too.

My DD21 wears some Champion items and likes them. I remember the Champion store being pretty busy the last time we went to the outlet mall, and all ages were shopping for things. It definitely seems like Champion is getting more love and respect these days.

My 23 year old discovered the brand a couple of years ago and was thrilled to find a "vintage" one in DH's old stuff. 😎 I think it's cool now.

Back when I was in high school, there were only a few companies who made sportswear type items. Now there seems to be a new brand every year selling basically the same items. As an adult who cares if something is trendy/stylish/status symbol??? Who cares what someone else thinks about what you enjoy wearing? I agree with someone who posted earlier that about the time you went off to college, those trivial sorts of things didn't matter anymore and you chose to wear things you found comfortable. Can't say that I ever notice (or care) what others are wearing when I see them out in public.

I think most adults realize that any celebrity/sports figure doing ads for some sportwear company are getting PAID to do that. And likely increases the price you have to pay to buy their products since that $$$ to pay the celebrity has to come from somewhere.

Most sportwear type clothing seems to be made from similar materials so you basically are paying extra because it happens to have a trendy name/logo on it.
