Ok, so i need some help

My name is Carissa and I need some help. About 2 and 1/2 weeks ago I found posters going around my school for writer's club. I talked to my parents about it and they said yes. I write books all the time but the only problem is I write little kid chapter books. My mom said I need something more appropriate for my age but I dont know where to start. Another bad thing is my mom said she wasn't going to help me this time. I need a genre at least that teens are interested in. Any ideas?

There is nothing wrong with writing children books. I mean, children don't write their own books, adults do! I say if you're looking for a teen genre though, I've been working on a fantasy/action novel. You can pretty much write any genre and make it teen, so go for whatever interests you! Everyone likes different things. Good luck, and awesome club, I wish we had a writers club!

or usually when i feel like writing short stories i write spin offs of books i've read or tv shows i've seen

twisted fairytales or putting a darker/ unique spin on something younger, making it older. adding anysort of romance opens it up to teens. fighting also helps.

Teens like to read about characters around their same age or just slightly older, that have similar thoughts and problems in their lives, it's the most relevant to them and therefore interesting.

I think it would be fun to write a fictional autobiography and make up a character who is a lot like you, but more exaggerated - as in everything that happens to you is magnified. This is probably more of a comedic writing though, but you can make it anything you want.

Well I did that about a girl named Genevieve Adams and she is 14 years old. I know what you mean but yeah i still think i should work on that story but ... I know people need a story that could be popular for our age.

Personally, I don't think your mom should have much of a say in that. It's your writing isn't it? Besides, somebody has to write books for little kids right? Don't worry, I'm more of a story book writer myself

I agree with this. But whatever genre that you write it in, I am sure that there will be any number of teens who will more then likely read it anyway. people like variety.
