OK, Now We're Spoiled

I really thought we were spoiled after the first time we stayed at a 1 BR at OKW, and again after splitting some stays between OKW, BWV, BCV, and Universal's Hard Rock and Portofino. Before that, we have tried Beach Club, Grand Floridian, and recently the AKL. But nothing approaches the level of spoiledness we achieved on the vacation we just returned from. A week on the Disney Magic! It was so wonderful I can't even begin to describe it. Let me just say that it was a shock when we ate at Kona Cafe on Saturday night and had to put our own napkins on our lap and wait a while for our drinks! We will be doing this again, those points will just have to stretch. My point is, I highly recommend the cruise! Diana

Sounds like a blast!

I would love to do the cruise when my kids are just a bit older so they will remember it. (They are only 5, 4, and 1) I hope to do it when the youngest is at least 4.

Glad to hear you had a great time. :)

Thanx for the warning!!! If a waiter reaches for my lap, things will get ugly! :teeth:

I am glad you had a great time. We will hopefully try it soon.

Actually, it was pretty funny. The first night, you start to put your napkin on your lap, and your server is right there to take over. I don't remember my lap being reached for, however. It was more like a graceful drop. And I can't remember the last time I was at a restaurant where the waiter used a "crumb scraper". Maybe I don't get out enough.

Pollyann, the cabins are not large. I estimated the distance between the end of the bed and the wall to be about 18", we had to take turns passing through when we were getting dressed. I remember complaints about the rooms at AKL being small, but it seemed huge to us! With 3 kids, I think you will have to book at least a category 4, or two lower category adjoining cabins. You are wise to wait until your youngest is 4, and somewhat independent. The kids programs start at age 3, and if your kids enjoy them, you can have some quality time with your spouse. We had several nights when our 11 yo DD stayed out later than we did! Diana

Diana, You are SO RIGHT about the Disney Magic. We used points to cruise in 2001 (and had enough for an outside cabin with a veranda) and had a fabulous time. I am certainly looking forward to another cruise - but so many options with DVC, so little time...

I second it! The Disney Magic is "MAGIC!"

After being on the cruise, Disney is still wonderful. But boy is one pampered on the ship. Another great thing is at the end of the meal...NO BILL. Just eat whatever you want as much and the service... WOW! They truely understand the meaning of spreading a little pixie dust on your vacation. I found all CM's on the cruise polite and willing to go the extra mile to make your experience on the ship wonderful. I even had to visit the doctor on the ship and he treated me as if he had no one else to see. As a matter of fact there wasn't anyone in the waiting room. :) Just a truely fabulous time. My daughters 8 and 11 would rather go on the Magic than go to MK. They must be growing up:( They enjoyed the special pampering they received from the server and assistant server and ....

It did take me a while to decide to use all those points to cruise. But then I thought about what it would cost to pay for all those meals, most of them wonderful, and I figured the cruise was an OK deal. I think the only real problem with cruising is that once you've done it, you want to do it again, and again... Diana

No doubt the cruise is the best use of points right now. I think that disney is on to this and will be raising the points needed by DVC owners to huge amounts. In ten years it will probably cost 150 points per person for an inside room in off season for a 3 day cruise.

My point is cruise now and be merry while you still can reasonably use your points.:smooth:

Beautiful Family Picture!!!!

Looking forward to trying it "eventually" ??? Who knows when. Glad to hear you loved it!

If you dont mind tell us did you go on Eastern or Western Caribbean cruise? We are planning on using pts for 7 day next fall but cant decide which to go on. Elaborate on some feedback if not to much trouble. Thanks!!

Jimmytammy, venture over to the Cruise Lines boards, you will find a great deal of information to help make up your mind, including some wonderful trip reports. The Eastern costs a little less points than the Western, and has four days at sea vs. the Western's three. We enjoyed the sea days, but will try to go on the Western next time because my DH would like to scuba at Grand Cayman and Cozumel. If you've never cruised, you would certainly enjoy either one! Diana

Sounds like you had a great time. I will take my family one day when kids are older.:smooth:

....the waiter used a "crumb scraper".

lol-- that always makes me feel like a slob for putting the crumbs there in the first place! ;)

Thanks for telling us about your trip! It sounds wonderful!
