After having to completely restore the computer and spending all day yesterday (literally!!) downloading all the updates for Windows , I got an error message telling me that my computer needed to shut down. I chose the option to report this problem and a fix came up for me. WHY after installing each and every security/critical update on my computer yesterday, did the fix tell me I had to install the patch for that Sasser virus?!? Why didn't it list that update when I got the rest of them? I installed the patch last night before I went to bed then shut the computer down. I restarted it this morning and AGAIN that message popped up, the computer shut down and the fix came up. I INSTALLED THAT LAST NIGHT!!! :bounce: I reinstalled it again, it told me it already was on my computer and did I want to replace that copy. I said yes, installed it again, so hopefully it won't happen again. I am running the McAffee right now just in case. ::yes::

Is this computer simply trying to drive me crazy today?!! :earseek:

believe it or not that's not uncommon, windows update has been known to get a bit "confused"
Computer problems often don't make sense :)

Is your Computer saying that is has to shut down in acertain number of minues and saying that it is due to the LSASS.EXE file?

If that is the case then you probably have the Sasser Virus. Do you have virus protection ( Norton or MAcafee) >? If so then you need to scan the computer for the Virus and Get rid of it.

I worked on a friend of mines computer for hours a few weeks ago due the sasser virus. It took so long because in order to find the virus the computer needed to sttay on! Did you DO a system RESTORE or a RECOVERY? The system restore can be a problem is you restore it to a point in which the virus was already in the registry. If you did a recovery did you do a recovery that was BAsic ( did not destroy saved objects) or did you do the full recovery? The full recovery should help as that would revert the registy to what was there when you bought the Cp.
I think you should try to make sure the patch for Sasser is there and then attempt to do a virus scan.. Also you could check Microofts site for Some instruction on how to remove the virus from the registry.

I did a FULL recovery!! If I can remember right, it was saying something about "Shell" (the word turned up each time....don't remember what else was there). The fix microsoft directed me to was the patch for the sasser virus. The virus scan has finished and it did say it found and cleaned a virus. It found and removed another one last night. Funny thing is that before I had to run recovery (when I wasn't able to get anywhere on the internet on Friday  ), I ran a virus scan first....didn't find one virus!! I've had 2 since yesterday!! :earseek: Go figure!!!
