We just got our plans for our land from our engineer and I FINALLY found the PERFECT house - soooooooooooooo
I NEED to stop spending money on scrapping stuff!
"the crowd gasps and goes silent"
I know I don't think I can do it either - but I have to give it my best shot - It will be well worth the sacrafice!
I thought I was doing good this month - I'm not.
I am going to quit Magic Scraps....."another gasp from the crowd"
But I will continue with Club Scrap..."a deep sigh or relief from the crowd"
I will ONLY go to Mikes with a 50% off coupon is available - and only with one!
sooooo....................
Secret sister of mine please have mercy on me if any new MUST HAVE things come out ok!

Everyone else - don't tease me - encourage me here - help me out a little - I'll have a party when the new house is done - and invite you all -
Hope you don't mind the drive - our driveway alone is over 500 feet LOL

Once again I am wiping my computer screen off! Please put a warning in topic...."Have no fluids in your mouth before reading...."
Patty I do truly understand and I think if you put your self on a budget you can do. I don't think at this point you can just go cold turkey!
Another organize your stuff I mean really clean out. I did this and wow! It made me take a good long look at all I had and not using! Especially paper! I love paper ::yes:: ...and when I went through I realized I love the paper I bought but I just don't use it!.
So rearrange it. If you have it by color then seperate by solid and patterned. This way you really look at it!
Also I won't charge my scrapping supplies any more. It is cash or nothing.
I also don't go to Mike's or any of them unless 1. I know I need something for a swap 2. have a 50% off coupon
Another give yourself an allowance for scrapping. You don't have to spend it each week but can put it in a jar or something.
I know this sounds easy or stupid . But so far it is helping me I couldn't believe I went to Mike's yesterday and came home with adhesive! So something is working.
Oh and another thing I have been doing, saving my change! I plan to cash it in right be for my over night! That way I can buy what I want an not feel bad. I think at this point I may have $150!
So hang in there and good luck!

only one I can NOT do is the change thing-
ALL CHANGE is allocated to DISNEY.
DH told the kids that when the water jug is filled to the first line with change we will go again - so I keep throwing ALL my change in there - even breaking large bills to get more change - even thought about going to the bank and buying ROlls of nickels (take up more space then quarters)
;)
I cannot sacrifice the next DIs trip for the house for scrapping - nothing - it is a must! LOL

I hope you don't have a plasma monitor - not good - I will post a WARNING** next time - lol

Well Patty you and I can ban together! I just need to stop spending. with all the plumbing and work being done in my family room I need to save because once it is done I know I will want the pretty little things to go with the new colors! new throws, new pillows, new curtains!
Plus I want you to save so you can be at Disney when we are there!

Maybe you should do what that lady does in that commercial... she froze her credit card in a big block of ice... LOL!!

Has anyone seen it? She's trying to buy something from an infomercial, but while she's trying to crack open the ice, she hits the remote and there's a commercial about saving for a house... is that really you? LOL!!

I got your back girlfriend ! ( I really do understand . If we are going to make our dream cruise trip or even Disney next year come true I need to be saving big time by next Christmas ) . But I do agree with Spinning , a budget might work better for you. Otherwise you may just go wild one day after going cold turkey.

I understand. I have been spending way to much on credit. I am going to cut them all up except for one and hubby will have that one. I think I will be more aware of how much I am spending if I only pay cash. Good luck

that isn't a business card ...
I just use the statements to input the CC numbers!:( Can't freeze the statements. LOL
If it isn't online it is a cash deal. Cash burns holes in my pockets. I think I might ask MIL (I clean their business 2x week for slush fund) to hold my check for a long length of time!
that way there is NO cash to burn any holes! lol
Maybe I could freeze the cash - lol

Patty,

If you are building your house, you will be spending soooo much time picking things out that you will not have time to scrap or time to spend the money on SB supplies. I know this from experience, I have been going through it for four months now.

I used to spend mega $$$$ on scrapping and lots of time doing it, but lately I am spending my time at Lowes, plumbing places, the hardware store, the paint store and lots of hours painting our new house. I bet I have not spent $100 in four months. No Kidding!!! I used to spend that it less than a month.

So there is hope. Just tell yourself, if I do not spend this on scrapping I can get a quilt, nicer cabinets, new furniture or whatever.

Good Luck,

Sue

Only problem is...Patty buys scrap booking supplies at those stores!::yes::
But you can do it Patty! Make a budget and if you don't spend it one week then save it for the next. Then you won't feel deprived.

But again I swear the clean out reorganize is a big help! So once that back of yours is better and you can lift all that stuff start sorting and put it back differently than before!

where we are 'workining' on the house it will be easy - I like you Sue will be to b=hung up on convincing hubby that we HAVE to have that Kowhlar waterfall looking facet for our whirlpool tub, etc.
But this fall we hope to get the driveway in - yah - but it is HUGE and as soon as it freezes we are done - if it is mild MAYBE we can get the cellar hole dug too - hi hopes there -
so the actual building won't happen til spring -
but I would like to save $ through the winter sooo just as you Spinning when the house is almost done and I want those little extras hubby can't say - ohhh we can't afford to put that in!
I watch to much HGTV and I get to many GREAT - expensive- ideas! lol
Patty

budget.

I know I've tried this before but we also am doing some major renovation at home. And, I want the finer things when I can start going out to buy them.

We just did this with DD bedroom it's gorgeous I'm so jealous. She had new everything. ( I sure hope she appreciates it) The only thing she is missing is a closet door. I will get to this before the end of next month.

I say a $10.00 fix per week should due us all. What do you all say?

I was thinking more like $15 per week....Then if I do fine with that then cut back the next month!
I need more albums soon!

Not sure this will help, but here is what I'm doing. This fall I picked up 4 swimming lessons to teach. That gives me $60 extra a month and only 2 hours a month of my time which I don't have much extra of. Since that money isn't in our budget, it's all mine to spend freely.

So, is there some way you could make a little extra money that you could just spend and not feel guilty about? How about selling something on e-bay, consignment stores, make scrap items or cards to sell? I bet there is something you could do to come up with some extra change.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck!

Consignments are a great thing. I make a lot of money selling my children's clothes there for extra pocket money. We have a great store here where you can bring up to 20 items a day and they pay you half of what it sells for. I also do a yard sale every Spring and make a lot doing too. I also babysit for a few hours a week while one parent works at night a the other during the day there schedules overlap. You would be suprsed how much this happens and how many people could use a babysitter for this problem. I charge $10 an hour (gasp I Know but it is the going rate here). Try making albums for others too. I really enjoy it and it paid for all are spending money in Disney. A big plus for you is that you can still spend money on scrap stuff but it is not your money!!

I dream about the day I can get out of Maryland and moved back to NoVa and I dream about having my own scraproom so I will do anything to save a buck or two. (Except leave my kids and go back to teaching)

Good Luck!

Then budge $10 per week plus your club only?

That's better than what you spend now.

OK I will try that -
club + 10 a week -
but I can choose to add up that 10 a week - I'll give it a try....

How funny that I was just having this same conversation with a friend who could not make it to the expo with me. Spent way to much. I have so many boxes full scrap-crap that I told her UNDER NO WAY WAS I TO SPEND anything else on scrapping except for if we go an scrap at this one place that charges $1.50 an hour and I was ONLY to spend that hr rate. So here's hopping we all are able to stick to our plans.

I hear if anyone needs support........................
