Just wondering how those of you who have been in August plan your days around the oppressive heat, and what happens to ressies in case of impending or actual hurricane? Thinking about going in Aug. for free dining, but we have been only in Spring or Winter. Not sure it would be worth it with the heat. Thx

I went 2 yrs. ago. We were supposed to arrive on Fri. the 13th in Aug. Hurricane Charley hit. We didn't get there until Sun. and it was not a direct flight like planned. It turned out fine though and they even let me add on a night and pay the rate that I had with a code. The hot weather didn't bother me, but it did seem to rain a bit too much. However, that said, I might be going back again! Despite saying I wouldn't go again in Aug., with free dining, I can't say no.

We usually visit WDW during late July early August. To beat the heat go early, leave the park around lunch and go back in the evening. Walk through all of the stores and take advantage of the air conditioning whenever you can. Shows are great for this. Take advantage of the water mist areas, each park has their own. We have been lucky and have avoided a hurricane so far.

The mornings aren't so bad, and the evenings are okay even in the heat of July. We drank LOTS of water. Plus, going back to the hotel in the middle of the day is smart. Plus, is rains almost every afternoon which temporarily at least cools things off.

We were at Disney during the week that Katrina hit (it actually hit on the day we were leaving) and they had just started the "free dining" packages (if memory serves). I will not kid you, it was hot and I mean darn hot. AT 9 in the morning we would just be getting to the parks and drenched in sweat, the parks were more crowded than usual (however we had Universal to ourselves) and Dining ressie were at a premium but it was the best darn trip ever! Crowds smowds and I took tips from the boards and made plenty of dinner ressies before we went down. We ate like kings and all of us had the time of our lives. Yeah we had some freakish weather but trust me when it is hot outside, you welcome the brief storms, it cools things off. If you go down knowing the worst that it can be and your okay with that, then it makes for a better trip. I am a firm believer in you make things what you want og them, if you follow the advice on the boards and some books, plan accordingly, there is no reason why you can't have a great trip even if it is hot and or crowded and bad weather (besides Orlando is in the center and while they can and have been hit by hurricanes, it is less likely than the coast).

I say go for it, for the prices that they are offering and the money you save on the free dining, you'll be kicking yourself that you didn't go. The best part of us going was the free dining..It gave us an almost all inclusive feel to Disney - the only thing we paid for were our souvineers - it lifted that "oh my gosh are we going to spend a fourtune on eating" feeling I have always had when I visited.

Go...
GO.....
HAVE A BLAST!!!!!
