This has been quite the tumoultous (sp?) year for our household. We are going on my annual bday cruise but I would like to make it special for DH and DS too. I have done gift baskets and the likes before, I did save enough DisD's to pay for the Anguilla dolphin swim for the three of us but after such a rollercoaster of a year I wanted to do something out of the ordinary and special for my two guys. Any suggestions of something totally different? They would not care about balloons and flowers etc. With two big medical scares (which both look ok now) we all are a bit worse for wear and I want this to be a very happy and carefree FUN trip.. too much of this past year has been spent on worry...

sooooooooooooo.. hit me with them BIG ideas :)

I love for some type of magic to happen for my children everytime we visit anything Disney. For this cruise I bought my DD7 a Cinderella septor that lights up to replace the broken one her fairy godmother left her on the ship last year and glass slippers to go with her Cinderella costume. For the boys I bought pin collections from Disney's site and their Ebay site that had some connection with each boys interest. I also bought t-shirts from the Disney website with my childrens names inprinted and "Remember the Magic!" underneath. I'm going to take them to guest services to have them signed by all the characters. I plan to sneak their surprises into the room right before we go to see Dreams so when they return to the room after the magic pixie dust form Dreams the gifts appear. I did this last year to a lesser extent and even though the boys were older they were taken in by the magic and my DD still talks about her special magic a year later.

If you look around at Disneystore.com or their Ebay site you will find so many things to give you insperation.

With the BF not believing in Disney Magic (I know how could he!!!) I hired a limo for him to take us to port and from port to the airport when we return...
Also, going on that theme...rent tuxes..shiney shoes and everything...maybe you can even find crowns with mouse ears on em (hey its worth a shot)
Those are my thoughts...I'll let you know if I come up with anything else.

Ann,

I believe you are on the Eastern correct? Have you ever been to Coral World? They do something called Sea Trekkin which is kind of like scuba but you don't have to be certified. Mark and I are planning on doing it in December of 2004. Here's a link : Sea Trekkin'

I think it would be great if you packed a lunch and headed out to Coral World and Coki beach for a quiet day with the family. We loved Coral World and Coki looked like a great beach. A nice way to relax with just the three of you.

I saved the link! that looks like a keeper!

Great idea Ann ~ gotta take care of our men w/plenty TLC!!

Out of all your posts and I can't remember if your DH has been Parasailing?
Is this something he and son would enjoy?!?!?!
Our guys got a kick out of this adventure. :umbrella:

As for my DH ~
Nothing like a "Well Being Massage" to relieve some stress!

We saw the 'Sea Trekkin' at Coral World and it looked really cool.
Ditto...our picnic on Coki made for some special memories!

Have fun planning! Good luck in your decision.
Glad everything has worked out. :sunny:

Hi Sandie, Yes Jay parasails each year (you couldn't PAY me to do it) he offers DS to tandam but so far he has not wanted to as of yet. Maybe this year. That idea about seatrekkin sounds very interesting as does the coki beach picnic so far I am leaning that way. The only problem with that is I would have to skip shopping.... We will be in Anguilla for the entire day so no shopping in St. Maarten so I was planning on doing some in St. Thomas (gotta bring my preschoolers back something and ofcourse my bday present :) ) but that sea trekkin looked REALLY cool. Well I have 68 days to think about it.

Ann - as for shopping. Coral World has a really nice gift shop that would have plenty of things for you to bring back to the kids. Also don't forget that Havernsight (sp?) Mall is right at the dock. I think you could get back in plenty of time to do a little shopping.

Mary you are a woman of great insight !!

We managed to do some fast AND extensive shopping at Havensite in St Thomas. The stores are so close, you can do a lot of damage in an hour. Go to the shopping talks and have them mark the stores that might have what you need.
Coki is close enough and the sea walk short enough that you could do all.

Carla

How long is the sea walk? Is it worth the price? The Anguilla dolphin excursion is costing me almost $600.00 so I don't want to throw away money..it does look really neat though. Maybe I will start a new thread asking people who have done it what they think.

Hi Ann.

I wanted to do something out of the ordinary and special for my two guys. Any suggestions of something totally different?

Before leaving for the cruise, purchase each an elegant Disney wristwatch or pocketwatch. Inscribe your feelings to them. When you board the ship, arrange with your stateroom host(ess) to have room service deliver the gifts to your cabin in the guise of a food order. Have each watch placed under its own silver "top." After it's delivered, retreat to the bathroom while the two gentlemen begin to partake of the refreshments...

BD-

IMO, that is the best suggestion I have read in months! I'm filing that away for future reference.

BD what a nice thought!
Watch out you are showing your sensitive side again.
