I came across this picture and wanted to share and hopefully get some knowledge. Years ago while having lunch on the beach at Discovery Island (Ithink this is what it was called.) The nature center Disney once had before AK. This guy came up to our picnic table begging for food. Do you know what kind of animal it is? You should have seen our faces when he first came up to us. LOL Well here he is......

Well I should be happy, it only took me 1/2 a hour to post this picture and it's sideways. :confused3 Can someone turn it around? Thanks, Gina

I don't know what it is, but he could earn a fortune in the circus! Oh, wait, he can't really do that, can he? ;)

The first thing that came to mind is a wallaby but I'll have to go look up a picture to be sure.

I looks like a young Capibara but I'm not sure, did they have those at Disney?

I think it is an Aguti, a rodent which originally lives in Middle and South America. It's very common in zoos and often located on the same premises with Lamas and Nandus (Southamerican ostriches).

I forgot their name but they used to be on Discovery Island when it was open to the public. We took a boat over in the early 90's. Nice and relaxing break for the parks. Wish it was still open! Yes, they used to beg around the picnic tables! Kind of startling to look up and see a giant rodent sitting next to you! :paw:

Thanks, I can't tell if it was a Agouti or a Capibara.. I'm thinking a young capibara because the Augouti only grows to 9 lbs and he seemed bigger. Maybe because of all the begging. LOL :paw: :paw: But The capibara is the largest rodent in the world and weighs up to 160 pounds. I thinking they might not have something that gets so big running around.
I wonder if anyone at WDW can tell me. :earsgirl: Thanks for your replys. Gina

I was thinking it looked like a paddymelon. (Small type of wallaby)

I can't say for sure, but I'm at least fairly certain that what you are looking at is the little-known rabittsquirreldog.

:teeth:

As far as identifying the species, I'm fairly useless, but as far as naming the animal ... i think it looks like it could be "Jimmy". Yeah, Jimmy would be a good name for it ;)
