Ok, it bugs me....

I hate it too. I find that in my area, the offenders are usually have Maryland plates. I've always wondered if they had different driving rules there.

DH hates it too. I grew up in MA and the area i was raised (north east near NH border) there was not a lot of signalling. I tend to forget to signal as it's not second nature.

So be wary in MA!

We see a lot of that here in The Villages with golf carts (very common mode of transportation within the community). I think the relaxed atmosphere tends to make people forget they are mixing with cars and some people assume the carts have the right-of-way (they don't). We're here going on five years and I have not seen a golf cart win in a collision with a car yet.

I have noted that the more expensive the automobile, the less likely the driver will be to use the signal. Wealthy people are not obligated to tell anyone what their plans are.

If there's no traffic about it doesn't annoy me. But when there's a lot about it's just plain dangerous.

Except that if any other driver sees that the car didn't signal there is but implication traffic around, even if it is only you.

In heavy traffic or during rush hour I won't let anyone into my lane unless they are using a blinker. I've had people in the summer when the windows are open yell at me for not letting me in and I calmly inform them that had they used their blinker they would be in front of me now.

There are times when I purposely don't use my blinker. If I am in traffic, I make a point of not using it. As soon as I flip my blinker on, the car in the next lane purposely speeds up a bit so that there won't be room for me to get in. It happens almost every time. So, by not using the blinker, I have that element of surprise and can get into the next lane. Of course there are times where the car in the next lane will try to speed up anyway, but I'm generally quick enough to get in there. I really don't understand the mindset of these drivers that purposely try to cut you off and prevent you from changing lanes, whether your blinker is on or not. They obviously have issues and hogging up their lane gives them some sort of feeling of superiority. Me, I don't worry about silly things like teaching another driver a lesson if they don't use their blinker. I also don't make their lives harder by purposely speeding up so they can't get in my lane when they do use a blinker. I have better things to do with my life. I guess these other drivers feel special by being the "perfect driver police".

In most other circumstances I do use my blinker.

It bugs me too, especially when they whip in front of me and force me to slow down to avoid hitting them, thereby irritating/scaring the unfortunate person behind me!

True story:

A few years ago, I was driving in FL with a couple of my YoYo sisters. I signaled to change lanes and one of the YoYos yells at me that "You don't signal before you change lanes! You signal after you change lanes to let them know you're staying in that lane." :confused3

I won't ride with her anymore after I found out a month or so ago that she texts while driving. :scared1:

It bugs me too.

But what bugs me more is when a lane ends, and some jerk will come roaring up to the very end, and then cut in on all of us folks who have moved over at the appropriate time.

In heavy traffic or during rush hour I won't let anyone into my lane unless they are using a blinker.

Yep. In heavy traffic I interpret the blinker as being the driver's way of asking if he/she may please come over into my lane. And then my answer is always, "Sure."

When traffic isn't heavy I see the blinker as a considerate way of letting everyone else on the road (pedestrians included) know what you're about to do.

When people selectively use or don't use the blinker, I think it just makes them potentially lazy and more likely to not use it when they really need to.

It's so often the people dangerously darting around through traffic who don't use them. I always think they must be racing fans who are a little too into it and somehow believe they are in a NASCAR race :confused3.

It also bugs me when people don't signal in parking lots. That seems to be one place that you really need to let people know what your about to do. Want my parking spot and you see me get into my car to leave? Then don't just sit there and make me wonder if you see me. Turn your blinker on to "claim" the spot and so I know it's okay for me to back out!

It annoys me, especially if I have to slam on my brakes to avoid the car butting into my lane who failed to notify me they were going to do it.

**note, my DH apologizes--his car is in today for repairs including the broken turn signal.;)

Yep...me too. I know many people who've recieved tickets for failing to signal. And more than a few accidents caused by not signaling. My mom is one of the owrst offenders.
