We paid our final part of the bill for our trip today and my husand is whining big time about the final cost.....so did I get a good deal or am i a dope:

Trip Jan 21-28, 2006
Water view room at AKL for 7 nights
Tickets upgraded to premium for 8 days with water park, DQ, PI, etc. using YRD
code to get a basic ticket upgraded for free
Magic your way Dining plan for 2 adult and 1 four year old
Round trip airline tickets from Pa(non-stop) for $650.03 total

Total cost for all with tax, etc.......................$3,436.00

I think that you did fine. We are staying 7 nights on the dining . But we had to make 2 ressies because we are splitting our stay and wanted to keep the dining. So we have 4 nights at pop with a 3 day base plus dining then 3 nights at akl savanah view with a 1 day base ticket plus dining for 2 adults and 2 kids (7-9) and we paid about 3100.00 including air. We are going in 12 days so we did get value season rates. My husband complained too. I just think it is in their nature. LOL. Once you get there and you all have a wonderful trip I think they will say it was worth it..

Looks to me like you did pretty well. The total "rack" price of that package looks to me to be about $3919.60, so you've saved nearly $500.

With only an AAA discount, the cost would have been about $3685, so you did about $250 better than the best AAA rate you could have gotten.

Do you need the pluses and park hopping? If you don't, then park of your $500 savings is actually an illusion. If you had gotten this package with an AAA discount on the room and purchased 8-day MYW tickets, but without park hopping or pluses, it would have cost about $3429, or just a little less than you're paying.

Bottom line: If you would have bought park hopper and pluses anyway, you've saved about $500. If you wouldn't, you've saved about $250, which is the same as what you would have saved with just a AAA discount.

Your discount appears not significantly better nor worse than what others are reporting.

Is this total (3,436) including the air tix (650)? If so, the total for your package is $2785?

I think I came snippy when I didn't mean to be. I meant it earnestly -- What else can I tell you about your deal?

It seems to me that one last piece of info you'd want to know is whether, if you had an annual passport, you might save some money. That's better left for the BRP people. I think that, ultimately, with 8-day park hoppers, if one of your group had an AP, you might get a real good rate on the room, so that if you priced everything else out a la carte, you'd do better. But if you did that, you can't get dining.

I had checked into the AP but I found out I could not get the dining, like you mentioned, and I have to have that....because I know if the food deal isn't on there my husband will have us all eating hotdogs all week. So this way I can eat to my hearts content at the best restaurants and he will do the same to get his money's worth. My son (age 4) calls him cheap daddy...LOL...but we can always get him to spring for the best once we convince him it's for our good

Yep...I think it's a good deal. Saving $500 nearly paid for your airline tickets. Not bad at all!

That is exactly the reason we do dining. My hubby hates to waste money so if the food is paid for he will dine to his hearts content... however, 1 time of paying for buffet at Chef Mickey and we will never see the inside of a nice restaurant the rest of the time we are there!
