OK, I'm Cheap..anyone done this??

Staying at HRH 12/9 - 12/13 on a Florida resident rate. Bought annual passes to US/IOA. Hate the $12 per day parking fee at the hotel. Since parking at Universal is free with an AP, could we just check in and then park our car at the parking garage during our stay?? We don't plan on using the car during our stay so we would only have the walk one time to and from. Do the security folks require the parking garages to be emptied every night??

Told you I was cheap...trying to stretch our bucks during the Christmas season and rage against the stupid self parking costs.

You can't park in the parking garages overnight. Just be happy at the discounts you are already getting.

I'm wondering that too.

It says that you live in Texas. Have you moved or is there maybe a member of your party who is a Florida resident staying in the same room? I think that residency is something that you have to prove to get the Florida resident rate.

Oops, I forgot to change my location...moved to Florida last September. I haven't been on the boards much since our Disney trip in 2005. But, we are legally getting a Florida rate...$154 a night.

I am grateful for the breaks I am getting but I always look for a better way or price as long as it is LEGAL! Don't want to lie or cheat... just use the system the best way possible! Thanks for your help.

I know someone who tried this.

Their car was towed so they ended up paying way more to get it out than they would have if they had just parked at the hotel and paid the hotels parking fee.

Well, I SURE don't want my car towed so we will just pay the going rate.

Does anyone else feel that the parking fee is a little rediculous??

I do too but what can ya do ??
we stayed at the doubletree this past june and it was 5.00 a day and now I see they have raised it to 7.00 so I guess they are trying to keep up with Universal on parking

I really don't mind it much. In fact, I kind of like it how Loews breaks out the parking fee from the rest of the rates. I pay if I have a car, I don't if I use other transportation. I like it much better than paying the astronomically higher rates at Disney for a comparable hotel. And don't be fooled - they have their parking fees built into their nightly rates.

With the rates so low for a deluxe 4* hotel, an extra $12.00 a night really doesn't bother me.

If reservations quoted me a nightly rate of $181.00 per night rather than $169.00, I wouldn't even blink an eye. I just consider the parking part of my nightly rate. I think seeing it broken out makes it a bit more conspicuous and a bit more irritating. But if it was rolled into the nightly rate, an extra $12.00 probably wouldn't even phase most people.

Besides, charging for parking is becoming quite common. And Universal's is actually quite low compared to other hotels across the country. It sure beats the $25.00 per night we had to pay at the not-even-close-as-nice Anaheim Marriott or the $30.00 per night at the Loews Santa Monica As Ky07 said, even the hotels like the Doubletree are now charging for parking.

It is true that it's all about your set point! Guess the parking is just something that bugs me...other charges might not and you are right....this type hotel at Disney...way more!

I am definitely not going to let it bother my vacation...really need it. Terrible year for us - hubby dx'd with throat cancer....had twice a day radiation for 7 weeks... chemo once a week during that time. Feeding tube in tummy cause he couldn't eat or drink. Finished treatment October 1. He is almost back to normal now...eating by mouth even though his saliva is about half and he has trouble swallowing. We are going to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and act like normal carefree people for at least a few days.

Suitcases are almost packed - we are Orlando bound. Gotta love this Florida stuff when it comes to cruises or The Parks! No airports, no security, no worry about baggage weight....just hop in your car and go!
