Just thought Id fill you in on how we decided where and when to go for this trip.
We had decided to look at February half term as it was cheaper than the January trip we were originally considering (it would have been the very beginning of January before the cheap option kicked in) Also it was in the under 12s free period. We have never managed to get DD in free yet as they brought out the under 7s free and free AP just after she turned 7 - typical.
We wanted it to be a relaxing trip and stay somewhere we could really enjoy the hotel.
We looked through the brochure and priced up DLH as DH really wanted to stay there, Castle Club as I liked the idea of that and also New York.
It was going to be an extra £500 to stay CC as we just couldnt justify it. We are hoping it will be quieter than we are used to so wont really benefit from VIP FP, the separate entrance and the special lounge and snacks and drinks would have been nice but werent worth that much we decided. As Torsie said you ca buy an awful lot of hot chocolate and cakes for £400.
I quite fancied the idea of staying at New York in a lake view room and being able to look out and watch the ice skaters and over to Newport Bay and save DLH for another time but DH really wanted to try it this time so we decided to go with that - not that im complaining or anything
Normally we drive and go by Eurotunnel but we decided to fly from Manchester for a change as it is a short trip and because DD would be free.
DH phoned yesterday to get a price and book DLP flying from Manchester however the price we were quoted was almost £500 more than the brochure price. The CM couldnt really expain why and I dont think the language difficulties helped. he also told us at first that it was only children under 7 that were free not under 12 and we had to correct him on that
So it was back to the drawing board again
We looked into different travel options and priced up booking flights separate, Eurostar and Eurotunnel. The flights were coming up very expensive, teh Eurotunnel was cheaper but we would have had to pay for a hotel overnight in London and paid to leave the car somewhere so we decided to opt for Eurotunnel again.
Dh phoned again and this time got a different CM so first of all asked about prices to fly. We were quoted lower than he had been on the first phone call
but still higher than the brochure price however this time he was able to explain the reason why - all the free child places had gone on that flight and the only one we could go on to get it cheaper wouldnt get us in til late evening so we would be missing a day.
So we went with the Eurotunnel option again.
We are driving down on Sat 14th feb going through the tunnel early afternoon and then driving to Marne la Vallee area where we are staying in a cheap £29 room for the night. We will then move to DLH early on Sun am.
Going home we can stay in the park until early afternoon as we have booked the tunnel for 6.00 and will then drive home from there.
