I am so worried that me or my DH are going to get sick on our trip.

Do any of you go through this???

I don't worry about anything else before the trip but this somehow is bothering me. I guess because my DH and I hardly ever get sick so I feel that it is time one of us does.

The other thing is that my DH was in Africa this week with the Secretary at one of the refugee camps. He was given every shot and had all of the meds on hand in case he came down with something but I am still worried. (Malaria was running rampid) :worried:

I am not generally a worrier but go figure, this is the last thing I want to worry about.

Anyhow, how about you? What silly things do you worry about? I guess it would just feel better to be told that I am not the only one.

Thanks for listening :flower3:

Don't worry yourself sick. I do this too-- but I can say that once I'm there the magic sinks in and you forget all about it. If there is anything that goes wrong, it will be heartbreaking, but worrying about it won't stop it from happening. There are many walk-in medical centers and of course emergency rooms. So, just hang in there--- you're leaving in 4 days!!!

It's always been our experience that Disney is not only the happiest, but one of the cleanliest places on Earth. Rest easy and wash your hands!

I always worry that I left something at home - because most often, I do

I worry too. My DH has severe asthma, I always worry about flare-ups before/during the trip. I usually call all his drs. and let them know we're going to FL during the summer. I ask if they want to adjust his meds. Most say no, just take along extra just in case. If he has a problem, we'll call them and they will adjust them at that point.

The other thing I worry about is 'travelers sickness". This happened to us in Feb. '04. We drove from MD to FL. We stopped for gas somewhere in NC and they had a Long John Silvers inside the station. DH & DD wanted a snack, so they bought some fish & chips. Well, they both got sick. Details aside, it was not a pretty scene. This time we're packing our OWN snacks, sandwich fixings, etc. and maybe stop at a decent restaurant for a hot meal.

I certainly don't know anything about exotic diseases, I guess I could say if he starts complaining about not feeling well, I would get to a dr. right away.

You're not being silly at all.

I worry too. I was worried on our last trip that I would have morning sickness or worse, all day sickness! Not one wave but I ended up with Bronchitis! Luckily it held off and didn't ruin most of the trip.
I mostly worry one of the kids will get sick. I just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. At least this isn't flu season. you should be fine.

I don't know much about any exotic diseases from Africa, but if you happen to be worried about more normal illnesses like colds, start boosting your immune system with vitamins like C, E, A (the antioxidents) and take echinachea (best method--take it for 4 days in a row then off for 4 days then back on for 4 days--doesn't help so much if you take it everyday when you're not sick). If you feel even a little sniffly, take some form of zinc--lozanges or Zicam spray.

I know what you mean...I have a son with really bad reflux (he's 5) and he gets flare ups at the worst times. So of course he was vomiting almost every night on our last visit. Why don't you call your Dr, or your husband's Dr...explain your concerns breifly, and ask their advice. I have found if you take it easy, and don't stress yourself out too much, you get sick less often. Good luck. Remember there are First aid stations if you need help. You will be healthy:D

I guess the best advice I can think of is to prepare for what you guys are prone to.

My seven year old DD is very thin and frail and gets dehydrated very easy. So I make sure we brings lots of water (we always have a fridge in our room) and I moniter her drinking very closely. At the parks, I carry a water bottle on a strap and personally give her a sip every few minutes.

Also, I make sure we drink bottled water. If you are not used to Florida water, it can mess up your system, as can any water from a different region than what you are used to.

If you prepare a little and know that there are good hospitals near by, you can relax and enjoy your trip. Wish I was going in four days!

Just had to add my 2 cents.........You're now hearing from the original "worrier central".........That's me..........We had an experience in January that I must pass on........Being senior citizens, you can never be sure what might happen. Well, as luck would have it, my hubby came up with a kidney stone attack. We were staying at BWV. I called the front desk - they asked me to call 911, which I did.........Within 10 minutes or less, a knock came at the door - there were the medics with a stretcher (the whole 9 yards), along with the night manager of the Boardwalk..........They took us to the hospital, stayed with me until I was comfortable, gave me a business card to call the hotel (which I did) and they sent someone to pick us both up at 3:30AM.....It was a scary experience, but everything turned out fine.... I guess the bottom line is, Disney and their staff was, nothing short of wonderful.... Go, enjoy your trip and try not to worry...........Things happen; but Disney seems prepared..............

Wow Irish they really did go all out for you and your DH :D That is comforting to hear.

Thanks for all of the replies. I am sure I have nothing to worry about.

Of course if either one of us ever did come down with something that can be spread to others we would adjust our plans appropriately as to not spread it to other Disney goers.

We just took our first trip, and the FIRST NIGHT we were there, DS 2 and I left Chef Mickey's because he was feeling a little warm and was cranky. While waiting outside the restaurant, I was distracted briefly by all sites and sounds and turned just in time to see DS falling. I felt like I was going for a Hail Mary pass as I tried to stop his fall. Almost made it, but he hit is face on the iron armrest of a park bench. He cried, and I hugged him and tried to console him. Just then, I felt something wet and looked down to see "alot" of blood. I could see it was his bottom lip and his teeth were in intact so I as calmly as possible called for help, and within seconds, the man working at the DVC desk literally jumped over the desk and came to help. Then a paramedic came up and asked if he could help, and then an EMT came out of nowhere and offered assistance. They were both guests. Then a security guard showed up and the night manager of the Contemporary. A pair of Paramedics called by the hotel rounded out the party. DS had stopped crying and bleeding by this time and the crowd of concerned people surrounding us became more overwhleming than the injury. It was amazing. The manager went into the gift shop and came out with a big stuffed Thumper for DS. We were directed to a late night pediatric clinic to get him checked out. He ended up getting 2 stitches in his lip, and an ear infection was the cause of the low grade fever . Poor little guy. Dosed him up with strong antibiotics, and in a couple of days he was back to his normal punky self.

Felt like packing my bags and calling the trip a loss, but we hung in there and ended up having a wonderful vacation.

As you can see below, I am planning 2 more trips. Figure they will go a bit smoother, I hope.

Go and enjoy!!

Well, I worry about everything from getting a cold to an asteroid hitting. Just me, though I probably have a hole in my stomach the size of an asteroid. Those are just my WDW worries. Day-to-day worries are another thing. I just read an article about how women tend to overthink about everything and it can actually have an effect on your health. The strategies were pretty much useless, so I just drink heavily ;) .

I had to laugh when I read this thread because I posted a thread once asking people what they do when one of their children become ill. So to answer you question - yes....I worry about illness also::yes:: .

Worry causes stress. Stress can supress your imune system, making it easier for you to get sick. So the more you worry, the more likely you WILL get sick! Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy!

Take lots of vitamins, wash you hands ALL THE TIME, especially after using the bathroom or being in a public place where you touch a lot of stuff. Try to get plenty of sleep and reduce stress as much as possilbe. This will help keep your immune system strong.

If you fly down, bring anti-bactira wipes and wipe down your seat (arm rests, tray table, head phones -including the cord- and don't touch the in-flight magazines, bring your own). More people pick up germs on the flight than any place else on a trip, after all you're in an enclosed space with recycled air for 2, 3, 4 hours or more. Just ask my parents! They picked up a nasty flu bug one Christmas. Came down with it 3 days after they got here and barely got well enough to go home 2 weeks later. Most bugs take 2-4 days to develop after exposure, so we figure it was the flight that did it.

Once at Disney, do the same. Wipe down the hotel room with wipes, and bring them (or hand gel) with you to the park and use when you can't wash your hands (or don't want to touch the public sinks in the restrooms). Also, in restaurants that have plastic covered menus, wipe those down too. Keep up with the vitamines, and try to eat fruit and vegitables once a day (there is now at least one fruit stand in every park, and the hotel food courts should have some, too. Better yet, bring your own!).

Again, try not to worry too much. (ha ha)!

I didn't worry about getting sick, but for our last trip I worried myself crazy that my DH's boss would ask him to stay and work during our vacation. He has been known to do that in the past w/other employees. I was so worried that all of my planning would be ruined. I also worried that some of the shows we wanted to see would be rained out, such as Fantasmic. But thankfully, everything worked out perfectly.
His boss wished him a safe, fun trip. Yes, it did rain a lot, but the weather was on our side. It did not rain during anything that would have been rained out. SO, my worrying was for nothing.
Will I worry before our next trip? Yes! ::yes:: Because I am afraid the moment I relax and stop worrying that is when something really will go wrong!

The last trip my kids went to WDW w/me was Thanksgiving of 2001. DD started running a high fever/not feeling good, so I took her back to the hotel. I called the front desk (ASMo) and they got me in touch w/the in room dr's office. Within about an hour a doctor came to our room and checked her out and gave her an antibiotic. So we were able to enjoy the rest of the trip, just took it easy w/her. She ended up having strep throat.

I was so relieved to know there was someone on call that made visits to your room.

I also let the Dr know that we will be going and how long we'll be there so in case something comes up. Since she has seasonal asthma, the dr will usually give me something to take on the trip w/us for if it flares up.

It doesn't hurt to take precautions, especially for us moms.

My wife gets sick almost everytime we go - not during the trip mind you....1 week before. In fact, we're leaving in 5 days and she made her usual trip to the doctor. She has a sinus infection. I don't know why this happens, but it does. Everytime. I just go along...

LOL :p Uncle Albert.

That sounds like something that would happen to me.

Thanks for the stories and reassurance. Disney really knows how to tkae care of its guests!!!::yes::

I worry too. I've never wanted a month to end so badly as I did the month of June. My MIL passed away on the 11th and I just brought my Mother home from the hospital.

I have that, 'Waiting for the other shoe to drop' feeling going on and I can't help it. I want this to trip to fun for my kids. Take a deep breath and relax, I know I have to daily.
