I have a cat that sits on the table. I know, I know, cats are not supposed to be on the table. He's almost 7 so how do I really break this habit. You don't. Because once you leave you know they are on the table going nah-nah-nah-nah-nah hehe ... she's gone, quick hop on the table.

Oh my cat sits anywhere and everywhere in my house. His favorite place is in the sink but i've found him most everywhere in my house. I try to tell him no when he gets on the dining room table because he knocks everything off and sometimes the girls leave their drinks up there... it's a pain.

I did break them of the table jumping - at least when we are home - with a spray bottle

My mom's cats are well-trained (that is, when she's at home!). Once when we were visiting my parents we all decided to go someplace. As we walked out the door, the cats were sound asleep on the rug. When we drove past the front of the house 3 minutes later, we could see through the kitchen window that the cats were both sitting up on the table! Darn cats!

My aunt sets her table - with unbreakable stuff of course - and with all the plates and cups and napkins and the centerpiece - the cats just have given up!

Course, they still sit on the chairs, so look before you sit!

My baby is always on the table, except when we are eating. He knows better LOL. He is almost 13 so I am not even going to try to break him of the habit. My other one never goes on the table. As long as they don't go on the counters I am ok with it.

My 3 cats usually don't sit on the table. Rarely the older one will attempt it. I come home, she is on the table, I swat at her, she jumps off. They all take over the couches and chairs though. My parents bought a new love seat to put in the den. I walk in about 3 days after it arrived and two of the cats were on the seat and the other on the armrest. My house gave up trying to keep them off, it will never happen. Just as long as the dog doesn't try to go on the furniture.

As I told my friend with 2 cats the other day, you don't train cats to stay off the table. You train them to stay off the table when you are around. Because you know what they'll do once you leave...

I've posted my feelings on this before. There is nothing nastier than dining at someone's table seeing cat/dog hair on it. Your comment just back up my opinion.

We have 3 cats and that is the ONLY place that they don't jump up on. They go everywhere else in the house.

It is impossible to stop, because they will do it when we're not there. So we just wipe it off before and after each use. But no, I guess I don't find it disgusting. But I do think it's disgusting when people let their dog lick something they're eating (like ice cream) or allow a dog to lick their face.

I never thought my cat got up on the table until I bought a maroon tablecloth. Now I know better. That thing was covered with hair the first day. I haven't caught him yet, but you can bet we're going to have a showdown when I do. And yes, I think it's disgusting.

My cats are bad about getting on the table and counters. When people are over I have to act surprised when the cats jump up. It started because one of our dogs would chase the cats and the chicken cat (Belle) is scared of the dog. Hard to put the cat on the floor when she's scared. Of course Tigger is not scared and he gets on the table, too, but not as often. We also have 2 kittens and we're discouraging them from being on the counters. we keep a squirt bottle around and they are learning.

As far as being disgusting, I don't disagree. Of course my 6yo was just picking his nose, which I also find disgusting. Yes, I had him wash his hands before setting the table. There are a lot of disgusting things that happen and I can't get my panties in too much of a wad over everything even though I do try to be somewhat sanitary.

My cats were never table or counter cats - don't know why, they just weren't - so it was a little hard for me to deal with my DD's cats jumping up on the table and the one counter in the kitchen.. The cats know how I feel about it and will quick hop off when they see me, but as soon as I walk out of the room, they're back up there again.. It's like shoveling snow while it's still snowing..

I hope that you don't mind a dog story. We got our pooch from the shelter when she was about two years old. She never jumped up on the furniture, unless we weren't home. (Even when you tried to coax her up on the couch, she'd last about a minute and jump back down.)

It's actually pretty funny. We can step outside, we can be in a different room, and she stays off the furniture. She must listen for the garage door as the "all clear" signal because that's when she does it.

We have sheets that we throw over the couch and chair while we're out. This way we don't end up with dog hair all over everything.

our cats (we have 5, yes I said 5) sit on the table, on the counters, in the bed, on the furniture, in the bookshelves...mostly wherever they want.
We even have some that sleep in the shower.

Our cat jumps on the table, but we don't like it. We don't let him stay up there while we are eating and try to act suprized when people are over. However my MIL will feed him right off her plate so what am I to do? He thinks he is so clever by pulling food on the floor and then eating it.

However my oldest was very good at yelling "COBY (the cat) GET DOWN." When she was less then 2 years old. Her little sister is working on it. He does get down, but gets back up like "who me? She only ment get down, not stay down." He get's locked up in another room a lot during dinner.

In my house cat's on the table are the least of my concerns.
